Does anyone epilate?

I have had laser hair removal in the bottom half of my legs and it's been life changing! My skin feels so much better and it's such a. Relief to not shave!
I didn't get the top half down because in all honestly they aren't that hairy... maybe I'll get them done next summer.. anyway, the hair growth is annoying me and I hate shaving. I am thinking of epilating as I've read the results last slightly longer and it's better for your skin.
Does anyone agree? Im aware it's not all that comfy!

Epilated for decades. Lower legs and armpits. I tried to do bikini area, but that was just too much pain! I think thighs might be a bit ouch for the first dozen times you do it.

isthismylifenow · 03/10/2022 11:04

I have one but I only do my legs. Actually I bought it for dd but it seems I have a higher pain threshold than she does.

I quite like it as it keeps my legs hair free for a good few weeks. But first starting off it hurts like a mofo. Although my hair was way to long first time I think. Good rule of thumb is 3 to 4 days after shaving is the length that is most comfy. Anything longer is a bit too pinchy.

I haven't done laser so cannot compare the two.

Anyone that can epilate I have complete admiration for! Absolute torture device!

JAC76 · 03/10/2022 11:08

I bought an epilator quite a years ago and couldn’t bear it anywhere except my lower legs too painful for me sorry.

I did buy a Philips Lumea a few years ago and that’s brilliant for me use it all over, only have to shave every week now and follow up with a going over with the lumea. I am fair skinned and dark haired though so ideal candidate for the lumea.

epilation works for me. I think it really only hurts the first time. Then keep it up weekly and what you’re removing is really sparse so doesn’t sting nearly as much. 5-10 minutes once a week. I swim with the kids twice a week so feel like I need to keep on top of it. Ido underarms and legs but not bikini line as my swimsuit has good coverage!

idiotfacelicker · 03/10/2022 11:11

You need to persevere with epilator. Is starts out ducking painful but if you push in it gets much less so to the point where after a while you barely feel it (for me anyway).

For me the benefits outweighed the early pain but be reassured, it doesn't stay that painful!!!

LadyMaid · 03/10/2022 11:19

I do my face once a week.

Helps makeup sit a lot nicer but the main thing is that it removes those really course thick hairs.

Chewbecca · 03/10/2022 11:22

I tried epilating in my 20s and couldn't do it, too painful, so continued waxing for the next 30 years.
During covid, salon closed, I tried epilating again and found it easy. I think my hairs must have weakened by all the waxing and perhaps age.

So I say give it a try and if too painful, leave it for 20+ years before trying again!

JerkintheMerkin · 03/10/2022 11:23

Epilating my armpits is a complete game changer. Grows back so slowly that I only have to go over any stragglers once every 4-5 weeks or so. Wish I could do the fine hairs on the tops of my thighs though but that is a pain beyond imagining.

sausage767 · 03/10/2022 11:25

Yes, I’ve epilated all my life, only waxed a handful of times. I even do my armpits and pubic hair. Yes, I have a high pain threshold.

WildCherryBlossom · 03/10/2022 11:32

I have been using an epilator for years. I do my lower legs regularly (about once a week in summer) and my upper legs every 3 weeks or so along with bikini line. Cannot imagine doing armpits - still shave there. But bikini line is fine. I

I waited to epilate my bikini line until I was on strong painkillers for something else and did it then! The maintenance is easier.

Right I'm sold! I'm going to get one!
Thanks all ☺️
My pain threshold isn't the highest but I'm too stubborn to give up on things so I will hopefully power through!

@Cupofteaonesugar

yea best way for legs

WildCherryBlossom · 03/10/2022 13:59

I recommend getting a waterproof one that you can use in the bath. My first one was not waterproof and had to be plugged in - which meant I wax often contorting myself on the floor near a plug socket,

When they one died I got a brain which I can use in the bath. I was ok pain-wise with the first one but with the new one I barely feel a thing. Got the same one for eldest DD when she started wanting to remove hair and she loves it too.

MarshaMelrose · 03/10/2022 14:06

I agree with a wet and dry one. The water makes it less painful but epilating does get easier the more you do it. You can buy numbing creams if it's a problem. I do my lower legs and the back of my thighs with only a bit of discomfort. But underarm and bikini lines... er just no. 🥺

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 03/10/2022 14:09

I do underarms and bikini line and have done for years. I don't really have any hairs on my legs
The first time is a killer. My ex stood behind and stretched the skin taut on my underarms. That helped a lot. After the first time it is fine unless you leave it months

WildCherryBlossom · 03/10/2022 14:14

Oh good grief - autocorrect fail. I got a Braun. Not a brain. (Will add brain to shopping list)

Minimalme · 03/10/2022 14:26

I have for the last 10 years. I do my bikini line but it is not for the feint hearted Confused

Underarms I do before summer holidays but otherwise shaving is easier through the winter.

feemcgee · 03/10/2022 15:05

Mine takes ages to get the hair out, I seem to have to go over and over my legs several times.

Blossomandbee · 03/10/2022 15:09

I used to do my lower legs and underarms, it's painful but bearable. It gave me horrendous ingrown hairs though no matter what I did so I ended up going back to shaving.
