I'm interested in the subject of bed socks!
Do you wear bed socks in bed or just as lounge wear?
And if you wear cashmere or wool bed socks do you wash them after every wear and therefore need several pairs and are doing lots of special care wool washing?
I have been wearing the fluffy Joules kind of bed socks in the depths of winter and wash them every day but they aren't wool so are easy to wash.
Wondering if I should aspire to wool or cashmere bed socks 😆
Our bedrooms are unheated so it does get quite cold at night once winter sets in.

I have some White Company cashmere bed socks that I was given last year and which went back on for the first time this week. If they are sold as bed socks you shouldn't really wear them to walk around the house much as they are not designed to be as sturdy as normal socks and they will wear through quickly - the cashmere is very very fine and in a day sock would be mixed with a bit of nylon for strength. I suppose it depends how much you sweat but because my feet don't get sweaty overnight and I haven't been anywhere in them except bed I wash them once a week. I wear a lot of merino / cashmere / lambswool in winter so generally do a wool wash in the machine weekly.

Yep... learned that one the hard way. Don't think DP has forgiven me. Forgot I wasn't wearing my usual cheapo ones and walked around in them a lot... keep kidding myself I'll learn how to darn socks one day and repair them

I wear loose-fitting cotton socks in bed (for warmth, not wafting-around-lifestyle choice). Wash them once a week. Why would you wash bed socks daily - you're not 'wearing' them in the same way as day socks.

For bed socks I don't think wool or cotton makes a difference to warmth. Wool dries quicker than cotton, which is a consideration if you line-dry laundry (or just have two pairs instead). Downside of wool is if you have clothes moths and have to store wool items carefully the 6 months of the year you don't use them.

I got athletes foot on one heel this summer 😣 So I dry to wear fresh socks at night. Unless it’s absolutely boiling I tend to wear socks most nights. As I was only popping them on at night I did re-use them but then decided probably wasn’t the best for the old fungals so fresh pair most nights for me. They don’t have to be the most fancy. I don’t like wearing normal day socks as they feel a bit tight. I’m sure my feet get bigger at night! I’ve just got fluffy soft acrylic (I think) ones from Primark, Aldi and some beautiful ones from Home Bargains - Jeff Banks ones.

Since living in a cool house, I have been amazed at the difference wool makes, and I find it so much warmer than everything else. Good quality wool needs very little washing, and I'd recommend wearing light cotton socks which you wash every day underneath wool or cashmere socks, as you wouldn't want to wash them very frequently.

You definitely want natural fibres - cotton, wool or cashmere. Acrylic or polyester would be dreadfully sweaty.

I can’t wear wool next to my skin so I have fairly cheap ones (nicest are M&S, IMHO) and wear them from about now until spring all the time. I wear slippers or shoes with them and wash every day.

I have White Company cashmere bed socks, they get put on as I am getting into bed at night and taken off in the morning as I get out of bed. Still they rarely last more than a year but I consider it an essential expense.
I love that they don't make my feet overheat (even if I am having a hot flush) and warm feet means I sleep much better.

I did have an alpaca blend pair that were much more hard wearing but not as soft and cosy. They were about 2/3 of the price of the cashmere ones.

I wash mine once a week in the wool wash, I have loads of wool cardigans and DH likes a wool sweater so we always have a few things to wash at the weekend.

I wear gents soft top bamboo socks a size up as bedsocks.. cosy and soft and long! Wash as normal.. wear for a week.. but in bed only.

I got lovely pink cashmere socks and they didn't last six months. Walking to and from the toilet at night and in the morning wore them out. Don't make my expensive mistake x

I wear synthetic fluffy bed socks. I think I'd find wool itchy.

I have a big problem with cold feet and I find alpaca socks the warmest and they are v hard wearing

I have a few pairs so I probably wear them for a couple of days and wash them all together. I have a silk pillowcase so do a wool and silk wash quite regularly.

Alpaca really are hardwaring and comfy. I love mine but they are my tromping around the woods socks.

I've been wearing the same Fatface fluffy socks for about 10 years... insdestructible, very warm and I wash them every day .
