Are my Vejas a total cliche?

Honest opinions please. I’ve got these ones.

I thought they were really trendy when I bought them last year but I haven’t worn them as much as I thought. Feel a bit of a walking cliche. Also dh says they make my feet look huge!

honesty please! Have seen some pink new balance. Trendier?

Are my Vejas a total cliche?

yes but does it matter. The NB 327s will be too soon, that's just what happens when everyone wears the same thing.

Addicted2LoveIsland · 02/10/2022 01:09

I really like them

Appleblum · 02/10/2022 02:06

I bought mine 3 years ago and do think they are abit ubiquitous these days. But as long as you like them and if they're comfy, who cares.

NCFT0922 · 02/10/2022 02:10

They’re very frumpy mum to me, but others see them as trendy so I suppose the cliche you think they belong to depends on which group you belong to.

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 02/10/2022 08:31

Where do people live that this is seen as cliche? Genuine question, this fascinates me.

I've never encountered this sort of thinking in my everyday life and I absolutely live for clothes/shopping/fashion type stuff.

Youngatheart00 · 02/10/2022 08:35

I like them - if you like them, wear them!

if you are a mum, why do you mind looking like a mum?

Oatsamazing · 02/10/2022 08:41

I think they are only a cliche on mumsnet so I wouldn't worry

Confusedandperplexed · 02/10/2022 08:48

Thanks everyone! I realise that this makes me sound like I worry endlessly what everyone thinks about how I dress. I don’t normally, I wear a pretty standard uniform of jeans and a jumper and have two small kids so haven’t got much time for anything else but do feel a bit scruffy sometimes.
i will admit (this is embarrassing I know!) that I saw the duchess of Cambridge wearing them in a photo with jeans and thought she looked great, so I thought they would ‘lift’ my normal outfit.

I’ve worn them a fair bit but not as much as I thought I would. So I think it’s a lesson in not just buying something because someone famous looked good in them!

I would say if you like them, wear them. I’m definitely feeling this the older I get. Agree with a previous poster about we are now trying too hard to not appear try hard. It’s madness and I really don’t have the energy for it 😂

AtomicBlondeRose · 02/10/2022 09:35

People where I live wear skinny jeans, Joules tops and Converse so I’m always surprised by places where all the mums are trendy. I think those trainers would be seen as pretty fashionable here!

fernz · 02/10/2022 15:34

I saw a very stylish woman on the bus this week - she must have been about 80 years old and impeccably stylish, and wearing Vejas. She looked great.

I think as everything else, it's all about how you wear something. Or just ignore what anyone else thinks if you like something.

Readaboutyourself · 02/10/2022 15:36

I wear my vegan Stan smiths all the time and couldn’t give a toss if it makes me a middle class w@nker.

Comfy & look great with midi dresses three out of four seasons.

christmastreewithhairyfairy · 02/10/2022 15:56

Well yes in that everyone and her dog wore vejas over the summer but if you like them wear them

Puppers · 02/10/2022 16:01

I can't answer for OP but personally I feel like so much of my identity is tied up with being a mother, the last thing I want is for my fashion choices to scream "mum" as well.

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 02/10/2022 17:21

I have to admit I’d never heard of Vejas until Mumsnet

Me neither. All trainers look the same to me. I'm not sure if the OP is worried this particular brand has become a cliché or if it's white trainers in general. If it's the latter, aren't trainers so ubiquitous/ basic staple for many people that it's a bit like asking is wearing something on your feet a cliché?

IrishMamaMia · 02/10/2022 20:37

@fernz that makes them sound really cool actually.
While they're not my thing, I do like them on others (mums or not, I am a mum) . They suit a kind of pared down style and I think they're nicest with jeans, styles in a smarter / casual way.

SimonaRazowska · 02/10/2022 20:39

Feet looking huge is a look

chunky trainers are in too

looking daintily dressed with kitten heels for example is not in

big feet look = fashion 😁

QuizzlyBears · 02/10/2022 20:59

Literally every girl I know at work and socially is a fan of white trainers with skirts and dresses. Not many of us are middle aged or have children. Vejas are on trend and super comfy. Wear and enjoy!

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 02/10/2022 21:03

If you bought them because you liked the way they looked on Kate Middleton then I'm guessing you don't exactly want to look cutting edge? In that case I wouldn't worry whether they're clichéd or not.

needthiswilderness · 02/10/2022 21:04

Ever since a writer I love described Vejas as “the jackboot of gentrification” I can’t quite look at mine (and allll the others in my admittedly v bougie neighbourhood) the same way…

Well that's interesting although I'll be sticking with my neat kitten heels, low stilletos and ballet flats.

From this? What's it supposed to mean?

missverstaendnis · 02/10/2022 21:30

white nice trainers are always nice IMO, wear them and ignore your DH's comments.
My most recent 'mumsy' trainers are platfrom(y) high top Converse. They look a bit big for me looking down on them, but I couldn't care less as it feels like walking on clouds.

Notarealmum · 03/10/2022 04:51

I think what they are is ‘mainstream’ fashion rather than ‘cool’ (though I suspect using the word cool is very uncool these days….)

Notarealmum · 03/10/2022 04:59

I should add that I’ve no idea what is ‘cool’ though, as I’m clearly not!
