What are your makeup bag staples?

Looking to revamp my every day makeup routine as it’s been the same forever (in my early forties now) and feels a bit tired. I haven’t bought any makeup for ages and could really do with updating what I have.
Any suggestions? Is there anything you wouldn’t be without?

The only thing I absolutely wouldn't be without these days is Benefit Dandelion.

properdoughnut · 01/10/2022 17:22

Tinted moisturiser- nars

TattiePants · 01/10/2022 17:36

Nars creamy concealer, Chantecalle gel blusher and Max Factor Masterpiece Max mascara.

Vicliz24 · 01/10/2022 17:59

IT Cosmetics CC Cream it's the only product I religiously buy .

Mrcpy · 01/10/2022 18:05

I tend to go max on skincare and minimal on makeup. I’d be happy with a good brow gel and hydrating lip colour.

QueenWenceslas · 01/10/2022 18:09

I’m a bit of a make up junkie, but products I always have are:

Benefit Roller Liner
Benefit Bad Gal Bang mascara
Dior Forever compact powder foundation
Dior Lip Glow tinted lip balm in the shade Berry
Clinique Blushing Blush in the shade precious posy

Baldieheid · 01/10/2022 18:13

Rimmel waterproof mascara or Clinique Lash Power mascara (depending on funds), any old brand of grey eyeliner pencil and a lip balm (currently Burts Bees). No skin makeup at all, just moisturiser (Superdrug vitamin E cream).

What level of makeup do you like to use, OP? Full face? Eyes only?

giddyasakipper · 01/10/2022 18:16

Bobbi Brown vitamin enriched face base is my holy grail product!

QueenWenceslas · 01/10/2022 18:20

Oh I forgot to add Rodial Banana Lowlighter for under eye concealer

Purpleavocado · 01/10/2022 18:21

I love Dior Lip Glow. I just discovered that I can wear Rimmel Scandle Eyes in my waterline without it getting on my contact lenses.

I hate the smell of this

Hoola by benefit, chanel eye shadow and no 7 foundation

Vecnussy · 01/10/2022 18:41

A cream blush and good quality make up brushes. Currently like the Morphe Blush Balm in Notoriously Natural or the Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam. I like an angled blusher brush as it's better for natural blending.

CT Hollywood Flawless Filter
NARS Sheer Glow foundation
Collection concealer
Benefit Hoola
Stila cream blusher
Rimmel brow pencil
NYX chubby eyeshadow stick ( also used as liner
Lancôme Hypnose mascara
Hourglass radiant light powder
Lipstick - currently Nars Niagara but also Jungle Queen and a deep red Revolution one.

This is my go to full face look and I've bought them all more than once ( apart from the lipsticks)

LadyOfTheCanyon · 01/10/2022 18:55

Also OP you might want to experiment with different brushes/ sponges/ techniques- I found that for my skin, using a foundation sponge instead of a brush was a game changer.

soupmaker · 01/10/2022 18:55

Day to day it's just skincare products, eyebrow pencil, and lip balm.

ChecoPerez · 01/10/2022 18:56

Estée Lauder watery glow primer on its own, no foundation etc.

I brush through morphe brow powder through my brows and also use the same brush to add the excess to under my lower lash line on the corners.

Estée Lauder double wear mascara

Finished off with either a slick of Mac lipstick in Crème Cup or just a clear lip balm if lips are feeling dry/chapped.

I've got a drawer full of make up - even recently splurged on the Chanel crème bronzer, but honestly since maternity leave, my go to's are named above and won't change now!

Like a PP, I've been taking care of my skin with good skincare and im getting good results from the Boots collagen range.

WatteauYouTalkingAbout · 01/10/2022 19:17

Thank you! These sound great. I don’t wear a lot of makeup but like to wear a bit most days to feel a bit more put together.
I particularly need a bronzer (for light-ish skin) and some new lipsticks.

I’m just getting back into using makeup again after the pandemic and being on maternity leave. I’m using the Clinique sheertint hydrator, chubby stick bronzer and blusher (amp’d up apple) and then Bareminerals strength and length mascara and eyebrow gel. For a quick every day look I’m really happy with these products

princessbear80 · 01/10/2022 21:02

I don’t wear much make up, but when I do:
Erborian CC
Milk Make Up stick blush
ELF brow gel
No7 tubing mascara
Urban Decay eyeliner
Laura Mercier cream eyeshadow

These products all work well for me, so I don’t ever shop around for alternatives. I do like trying different lipsticks.
