Wax jacket brand help - Barbour Size guide

I'm thinking of buying a Barbour wax jacket for a gift for a special birthday for a family member.
Are Barbour wax jackets true to size or should I size up?

I think they're true to size or even maybe on the small side. I'm a 6 in most places but can wear an 8 or xs at Barbour comfortably

Beyondshit · 01/10/2022 15:21

I only have one but I would say true to size.

Banrockmystation · 01/10/2022 15:22

I would say a bit on the small side

We have five Barbour jackets between us and I would definitely say they are on the small size.
Check the arm length as well, they can sometimes be a bit short (depends on the style), OH even had his sent straight back to have the sleeves lengthened (they do alterations but can't direct a new item to the department, you have to receive it then send it straight back). Lovely job though.

True to size IME. I have a few jackets and a gilet.

I'd go up a size.
Don't forget that you'll probably be wearing thick clothing underneath.

Def go up a size if for a female and think about lifestyle as I don’t find mine warm
but good for wind and rain.

TheOpenRoad · 01/10/2022 16:08

They're a bit small. If it's thd classic wax jacket you also want room for a warm jumper as there's no padding so you should size up. Love mine, will last a lifetime

Overoptimistix · 01/10/2022 16:09

I find the arms quite long but the chest small so tend to go up a size.

LynneBenfield · 01/10/2022 16:11

I find my classic wax Barbour Beadnell warm enough for autumn with a jumper underneath. I have a medium and am a comfortable UK12. If anything, the medium is on the generous side but that suits me as I think they look better slightly larger.

I have an International quilted one in a more tailored style and that is a slimmer cut, so possibly the waxed Internationals are also a little on the small side.

I have a long wax Barbour and I find the arms short. I’m 5’10” if that helps

KirstenBlest · 01/10/2022 18:09

I found the Beadnell quite snug, but I'm used to wearing one that isn't fitted. I prefer the roomy one. The one I tried on was a vintage one, and I think the one I wear is a man's small.

It depends what the recipient will wear it for - mine's a proper thornproof one, but you can get ones that are a bit lighter, and with Liberty lining or something.

Go up a size, definitely.

Autumnleavesandhotchocolate · 01/10/2022 19:02

Thank you! I think I may go up a size, just to be safe. I know she would prefer to have room to manoeuvre, rather than a more 'fitted' fit.

I think it depends on the style. Might be worth giving them a ring to ask once you've chosen which you want. I know some of the collaborations have different sizing etc etc. Do you know which you want?
