I need to look amazing!

I am going to an event my ex will be at next month and I need to look good!

Things that will make this difficult-

  • I am fat (size 22)
  • I need the tops of my arms covering
  • Most of my weight is on my belly
  • I can't wear heels

(I know, I sound like a catch!)

Budget up to £70ish

Got decent boobs, would like to get them out!

Any ideas?!

What sort of event?

haribonoyoudont · 30/09/2022 20:56

Something like this? With a decent bra, fancy jewelry, and nice metallic flats?

Dress - joanieclothing.com/gaia-v-neckline-midaxi-dress-black.html

Shoes - www.asos.com/de/asos-design/asos-design-wide-fit-virtue-dorsay-spitze-flache-ballerinas-in-metallic-gold/prd/201064089

I’ve just bought this dress for a charity event. I’m a size 18 and needed sleeves, it looks lovely on.

What sort of event?

Sorry, forgot to say!

Pub/club type event - also will be with a load of amazing beautiful skinny 20 year olds so really looking for the impossible!

None of the links provided will flatter you if you carry most of the weight on your tummy op, anything with a panel that’s supposed to sit ‘in’ on a waist won’t flatter if you’re an apple shape. You want to look for a wrap dress that wraps up high under the bust. Not sure what your style is though so hard to link to patterns / colours. Is it a wedding reception style event / awards ceremony / Or a mosh pit? 😂

EvilHerbivore · 01/10/2022 11:17

Mainly wear black and 'jewel' colours

Not opposed to a print/pattern but don't really like animal prints

Will be dinner at a restaurant, drinks at a nice pub and then probably onto a club til the early hours with the aforementioned beautiful 20 year olds!

So fat upper arms, fat belly, big arse and thighs
Decent boobs
Can't do heels because having a massive-headed child knackered my pelvis

Willing to throw some money at the problem (up to about £70 not enough for full body lipo unfortunately!)

I'm 30 so not hugely ancient although feel it....

And most importantly, will run into my ex and his new wife so don't want to look like a sack of shit

I think a bigger part of looking amazing is looking groomed, rather than an outfit. So good skin and hair, nails looking tidy etc.

make sure you’re drinking your 2 litres of water every day and getting good quality sleep, easier said than done of course.

indecisivewoman81 · 01/10/2022 11:29

I'd go for a wrap dress or something with side ruching and low v neck, with kitten heeled shoes or sock boots.

Something in black maybe with gold or silver boots and jewellery.

Have a look on phase eight website find a style you like then buy it on eBay.

Pricklesinperil · 01/10/2022 11:29

How about something like this? The dress has plenty of stretch. It’s over your budget but you can get 15% off if you register and you can also pay by clear pay

CrushedPistachios · 01/10/2022 11:32

I’ll give a dump of some things to get an idea of what your usual style is like that I think look flattering, feel free to say none of them are appealing! Asos have a good range though to get started.

I swear by coloured contact lenses on feelgoodcontacts.com i use the Bausch and Lomb soft lens

but why do you need to look good because he is there? He is an ex for a reason look good for you not him

Put it in your mind that you’re not bothered if he goes or not and just enjoy yourself. Confidence is far more attractive to men than anything else

UnityO · 01/10/2022 11:36

Get your hair and make up professionally done for the event.

Honestly I had this done for the 1st time recently and looked like a completely different version of myself!

EvilHerbivore · 01/10/2022 11:55

Oh I love that Zoe Vine one!

Might sell an organ for it!

TragicMuse · 01/10/2022 11:55

Why does his opinion matter? He's your ex. Look good for YOU.

And to that end I'd suggest wearing something you love, that you know suits you and makes you feel confident. Then get your hair done, and relax!

You could wear the nicest dress in the world, it wouldn't make any difference if you're anxiously adjusting it all night, or having to hold yourself in a particular way.

I'm not saying this to discourage you, far from it!

Choose the thing you actually feel your best in, laugh, enjoy, chat, dance, have a great time. Don't hide anything about yourself, you are fine as you are.

And stuff your ex's or random 20 year-old's opinions about how you look or what you wear!

Glad you like it - I have it and it is gorgeous- I always receive compliments when I wear it.

could friends and family make a contribution as an early birthday/Christmas present?

Zebracat · 01/10/2022 12:08

I like the ASOS dresses, except for 7 which looks like curtains in an 80s B&B.

I think you need to completely forget about competing with them, you will never win but you can look like the best woman of your age and body shape possible.

LookItsMeAgain · 01/10/2022 12:26

The fist tip I would give you is to be comfortable in whatever you end up wearing.
Next, I agree with the other poster who suggested getting your hair and makeup done.

Based on what you've said the event is, a formal dress or gown would be ott so here are my suggestions:

www.very.co.uk/yours-london-asymmetric-blouse-blacknbsp/1600711313.prd

www.very.co.uk/yours-sequin-mesh-wrap-top/1600796908.prd

www.very.co.uk/yours-london-notch-neck-belted-peplum-top-black/1600567374.prd

www.very.co.uk/city-chic-lust-after-top-bordeaux/1600771607.prd

Some of the outfits that the tops are put with would work perfectly for your event.

You look good for you, but it's no harm showing your ex what they're missing out on!!!
