Midi wool coat?

Suzi69 · 30/09/2022 11:14

I’m a bit tired of my puffer coats; they’re often too casual. I’ve got a couple of long wool coats but they’re too warm at the moment.

So I’m looking for a midi coat; wool or wool blend. Surprisingly difficult to find! I’ve found lots of short and lots of long but not so many midi.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Any luck, OP? I'm on the same mission. I have a 25 year old beautiful black 80% wool/20% cashmere blend Windsmoor that was ankle length and I had stopped wearing it for a couple of years.

I took it to the tailors to get it shortened to knee length and I am wearing it way more now. It is so light and comfortable but I would love to get one in a heather/aubergine colour. Lots of ones I have seen have been wool/poly mix and they feel hard and scratchy.

Would you consider shortening one of your existing ones?

I have just spent the last 90 minutes trawling the internet with no success. So has anyone has come across a single-breasted one with a funnel neck/stand collar that isn't just all shapeless and boxy?

Following with interest - I'm also looking for a midi wool coat, single breasted, not shapeless and boxy, not camel/brown/cream. Under £200, no luck so far.

Tweed coat out of stock Inspired by the Royal Style thread I even broadened my search to tweed! This is just about the right shape, but not sure about the colour. It is out of stock anyway.

Still searching!
Last year I bought Reiss’s black Marcie coat. I love this, it’s just the right length, not too long, and tailored so it’s got a nice we shape to it.

I was hoping they’d do the same coat in a different colour this year but it looks as if it’s discontinued!

I’m 5 foot 4 so feel swamped in some of the longer coats; also I feel they’re too heavy for Autumn weather.

i hadn’t thought about shortening an existing coat; it’s a good idea but I’d rather buy a new one.

Lorne's Coats I have just found this website. And there are a couple of coats that look like just what I am after. But am a bit nervous ordering from a Canadian company I have never heard of before.

Toomuchleopard · 05/10/2022 14:52

@TheLoupGarou have you looked at Hobbs Tilda. It’s actually £299 but they go in the sale quite often.

DoingJustFine · 05/10/2022 15:03

I bought my favourite EVER coat last year on eBay! A tailored, wool, below-the-knee, black one with silver buttons. Had never been worn. £5!

TheLoupGarou · 05/10/2022 15:53

Ooo thanks, I quite like that one @Toomuchleopard especially the dark green & maroon colours. I'll have to get myself to a Hobbs to try on!

TheLoupGarou · 05/10/2022 15:58

@clodaghrogers I like those on the Lorne's coats website too, I've never heard of them though...

@DoingJustFine I've been having the odd trawl through eBay but just haven't seen anything. It's hard when you don't know exactly what you're looking for....

I’m same height and have a few jaeger 3/4 length wool coats similar to the Hobbs one - try outlet or new with tags on eBay or vinted
I have had a few from tkmaxx too - recently bought a Maison Lener coat in a dark teal with raglan sleeves as I find they fit much better across my shoulders - normal sleeves can make me look very boxy and square which isn’t very flattering for a short person
The teal coat was £199 and is mixed sheeps wool and alpaca wool - very lightweight but warm

Thanks for the suggestion! I did know about the Tilda coat but thought it was longer; I’ve just checked the website it’s 92.8cm, that’s a real possibility.

I think they also do a long version of the Tilda but the normal one isn’t too long.

I’m sure I’ve seen them on the M&S website for nearer £200 but was probably later in the season.

Damn you! Coats are probably my favourite item of clothing and now I’m in (most likely) unrequited love with this beauty: lornescoats.com/collections/wool-coats/products/3174-trinity-modern-swing-coat-with-step-collar

The Hobbs Tilda is lovely. Also, Jaegar do good wool coats

ghislaine · 05/10/2022 22:04

I find retro clothing companies often do quite stylish coats that are in lightweight materials. Pure wool is a rarity though. Some of these are nicely tailored:

I’ve found a couple of gorgeous Jaegar camel midi length wool coats at Marks and Spencer’s…. But they’re out of stock in my size, 12.

Can’t find them anywhere else… I always thought there was a Jaegar store but it doesn’t seem to exist anymore.

Pure Collection do similar style coats to the Tilda in similar price range. Nice colours too. It's worth keeping an eye on their outlet page as well.

Ooh thanks I’ve had a look and got a bit distracted by the other lovely clothes by Pure Collection!
