Wide fitting walking boots

Sewwhatmrmagpie · 29/09/2022 21:37

Any recommendations please? My feet are a firm wide fit, size 4. I need some boots for proper countryside walking over fields and forest. Ankle rather than long, I have long country boots already

Not really bothered about price, I go on some long walks so more importantly they are supportive and warm for the winter. In summer I've been wearing good trainers but it's going to get muddy soon enough!

I had Merrell ones and they fitted my wide feet

Picoloangel · 29/09/2022 21:44

I have wide small feet and walk quite a lot - I take my dog on at least one 3-4m walk every day but quite often 2. I had a great pair from Salomon that finally gave up the ghost. I tried various different high end pairs but all leaked despite being allegedly waterproof! In desperation I bought a pair from Decathlon. They were only about £40 and I didn’t have high hopes BUT they are so comfortable and they are waterproof! They have lasted so well and every so often I treat them with a wax spray to keep them waterproof. I have the walking shoes for summer and boots for winter. I would really recommend them. For some reason the shoes haven’t been as waterproof but I’ve treated them to get over that.

Ooh I can do this one.

After schlepping round loads of shops (and trying on a lot of “mens” boots for additional width - I’m a size 7.5-8 so this is doable) I ended up getting properly fitted in Cotswold Outdoors. I was so impressed with them - they brought out 3 pairs of the comfiest and best fitting boots I’d ever tried on. I ended up with a pair of womens Meindl wide fit. They’re brilliant. There was another good pair by another make “Hanweg” which were also very good but somewhat unattractively described as “bunion fit” 😁
I would def recommend a fitting in Cotswold outdoors though - if you can go when it’s not too busy.

I did nearly buy some ones from Decathlon though - they’re cut beautifully for wide feet, and were very comfy. I think they were the Quechua MX 500 ones.

Where are you OP? If you can get to Whalley Outdoor they custom fit boots and have a huge range of wide fitting boots.

Haggisfish3 · 29/09/2022 22:05

I got some from very.co.uk!

NotMeNoNo · 29/09/2022 22:06

Alt-berg boots come on widths and they are beautiful quality

Floomobal · 29/09/2022 22:08

Brasher. Would never buy anything else after buying my Country Masters.

OrlandointheWilderness · 29/09/2022 22:09

Meindl are brilliant.

Reluctantadult · 29/09/2022 22:09

I've got quechua ones from decathlon after reading about them on here! Merrell also good.

nythbran2 · 29/09/2022 22:10

Like giant toddler boots with a wide toe box

Tallisker · 29/09/2022 22:11

Another vote for Meindl here. Brashers weren't wide enough for me.

PauliesWalnuts · 29/09/2022 22:12

I’ve got the Hanwag “bunion fit” @Talipesmum and I’ve never even had bunions! 😂 They are the comfiest boots I’ve ever owned though - I do a lot of long days up in the fells and they are perfect.

Hotseatpants · 29/09/2022 22:17

I got these a couple of years ago. Massively comfy. I called them my ‘seven league’ boots because I felt I could go any distance in them.

Super warm and comfortable- I just sized up and they fit really well

Sewwhatmrmagpie · 29/09/2022 22:35

Thanks everyone, so many options to look at!

I've not really looked in decathlon for walking boots as their shoes haven't been great for meX but I shall be looking this weekend. There's a Cotswold outdoor here too so I'll try there.

Having a look at the others online!

I remember Scarpa were very wide when I tried on. It's best if you can get to an outdoor shop where can try on a few brands, they sometimes have an offroad style path so get more of feel on unlevel surface, I found some the foot bed or even the ankle shape just didn't suit me and when plan to use for many miles need to make sure comfortable. Some of the brands the shoe sizing is small which can make online shopping annoying.

I have some zamberlans, apparently Italian brands tend towards a narrow fit. I prefer leather with waterproof barrier as easier to clean mud off smooth surface than textile and still cool enough to wear in summer. If can it's worth investing in something that will last if do fair bit of walking, I went through few cheaper makes of walking trainers and the sole/footed got trashed quickly and weren't waterproof in heavy/sustained downpour. You can often get the decent walking boots brands refurbished rather than have to bin.

ConkerBonkers · 29/09/2022 22:46

Celtic sheepskin do wide fitting boots, they have really nice walking boots in, but not mountaineering/ hiking boots, more practical walking boots

They were extremely comfy! But I did think the name was working against them! I’d have definitely got those ones if the Meindls hadn’t been just slightly better on me. It was such a joy to have a great choice for once.
