I hope you’re enjoying your holiday @Greyhairwarmheart. I’ve never been to Madeira.

Agree it’s gloomy today @Sooverthemill. I’m dreading the clocks changing - I hate the dark evenings.

Top: M&S
Dungarees: Boden
Trainers: M&S

There is an article in the Telegraph Magazine about cost per wear today. I’m not entirely convinced by the calculations. They divide cost of the item by wears per year (WPY) to get cost per wear (CPW). But the WPY figures seem crazy - who wears the same white T-shirt 200 times per year?! And the WPY for a pair of jeans is allegedly 250!!

Dandyrose · 29/10/2022 10:16

Long time lurker here. I follow because I love clothes but have a weird thing where I buy lots and don't wear them because I'm "saving" them for best or don't want to ruin them or something! Im guessing most on here don't feel that way so I'm looking for inspiration to wear my stuff :-)

DeathlyQuietNeighbour · 29/10/2022 10:22

I’m actually trying to reduce my clothing stash to a capsule wardrobe but I bet I fail at that.

Tshirt - Ben Parkes (running YouTuber. Not a rest day, it’s Long Slow Run day but I’m resting now!)
Jeans - FatFace (I’ve worn FF in every photo so far, I didn’t realise I was such a fan)
No shoes or slippers (it’s too warm for my big fluffy things and I’m staying inside now)

DeathlyQuietNeighbour · 29/10/2022 10:22

Just to add Ben Parkes is the YouTuber not me !! 😆

faffadoodlewooooo · 29/10/2022 10:25

Halloween name change..

@Greyhairwarmheart have fun in Madeira. I'm off my hold today (hence the pic in a GWR toilet). We're St Pancras bound, then on to Europe for an interrail holiday. They tickets were half price earlier this year to make the 50th anniversary of interrailing. This time we're going with wheelie suitcases instead of backpacks, and staying in hotels instead of hostels!
Anyway, comfy travelling garb..
Sweaty Betty joggers
Breton
Boden tank
New Balance trainers

And @Dandyrose welcome! I was like you, saving nice things for 'best' and never wearing them. This thread helped me out of that rut. Tho obv today is not a great example!

Puddinandpie · 29/10/2022 10:44

Hi peeps dropped off the thread for a little bit been snowed under, anyhow outfits look great as ever!😊
@OublietteBravo I'm thinking the telegraph are thinking people own one pair of jeans and are sitting in their undies the other 106 days watching them go round in the washing machine🤣 I'm sure if I remember correctly someone on here said they owned 51 pairs of jeans on another thread, I can't remember which thread mind you, so the telegraph has it oh so wrong don't they just! I look so great in dungarees by the way😍

Puddinandpie · 29/10/2022 10:46

@OublietteBravo you look so great in dungarees, not me bloody autocorrect I look like crap in dungarees 🤣

Puddinandpie · 29/10/2022 10:51

@Dandyrose I actually used to have very little clothes and then covid hit and I gained weight and felt miserable wearing joggers all the time and then had an epiphany thought sod it, and went and bought lots of clothes that actually fitted, so I have this thing now where I won't save for best as anything could happen at any point and I would never have worn those certain save for best outfits, so I just wear them whenever I want instead! life is just too short, so sod it go for it😁

OublietteBravo · 29/10/2022 11:27

@Puddinandpie Even if I had 51 pairs of jeans (I don’t have quite that many Grin), I can’t imagine wearing jeans frequently enough to get to 250 wears per year. That would involve me wearing jeans to work the majority of the time - which I could do, but I’d feel underdressed a lot of the time. I suppose if I wasn’t working it might be more plausible.

@Dandyrose - welcome! I’m sure I used to have the “saving it for best” mindset. I really try not to nowadays. I’d rather enjoy the lovely clothes in my wardrobe than have them gather dust and go out of style having only been worn a handful of times.

OublietteBravo · 29/10/2022 11:38

Just counted - I have 9 pairs of jeans. Which does seem like quite a lot.

@Dandyrose you are not alone! This thread has certainly given me more fuck it moments (possibly age too!) to wear good stuff for everyday randomness. The temptation to stay in riding/yoga gear all the time is high but I've grown more confident seeing how great everyone on here looks. I am either woefully under or overdressed! Sod it quite frankly.

Hence why I am currently dress thus to go shopping Smile

Dress - yes a dress - world's May implode - can't remember the brand but it's nice
Long gilet - rinascimento
Boots - Jones

Everything charity

You look fab, you all do! Am going to make a concerted effort

Shannith · 29/10/2022 12:04

@OublietteBravo I've got something's which I have definitely worn 200 times <<hangs head in shame>>. Mostly my fab Amazon yoga/riding leggings which I wear almost all winter. And a Hush baggy leopard vest which I wear to bed and just round the house (it's long) pretty much all the time it's not in the wash!

My Dubarry's must have been worn 1,000 times - again I wear them most days Sept-May.

This thread has forced (wrong word but you knows that I mean) me to wear stuff that had a very low or indeed zero cost to wear and have a bit of fun with clothes.

Niftythrifter · 29/10/2022 12:04

Zara blouse- bnwt in a charity shop. It’s a lovely mix of lace and broderie anglais with fluted sleeves. It’s a shame it’s not very thick and quite sheet. It has lovely sleeves ( fluted?)

Boss stripe cardigan- bought in a charity shop

M and S Autograph coat - charity shop buy

John Lewis cashmere hat

Whistles scarf

Mint Velvet girlfriend jeans

M and S Chanel inspired leather belt- clearance bargain bought this week

Primark canvas baseball boots

Puddinandpie · 29/10/2022 12:05

@OublietteBravo exactly!! I've found out who it was, it was @Sooverthemill who said on another thread they own 51 pairs of jeans, I feel decidedly under jeaned (if that's a thing) I own literally 2 pairs of denim flares, I've got some catching up to do😁

faffadoodlewooooo · 29/10/2022 12:58

I hate jeans these days. Have three under worn pairs in my wardrobe which are probably around 5 years old. Doesn't mean I don't have too many other pairs of trousers ooops. My Sweaty Betty joggers have all been worn 100+ times and counting I reckon. Default for daily dog walking and travelling

Cardigansalltheway · 29/10/2022 13:11

@faffadoodlewooooo brilliant seasonal name change!

@Shannith love your white and blue outfit and @DeathlyQuietNeighbour really like your FatFace jeans.

@OublietteBravo I honestly think any t-shirt worn 200 times would only be fit to be used as a duster by that point, no matter how high the quality!

@Dandyrose welcome! I've found joining this thread really motivating for wearing all the clothes in my wardrobe rather than the same couple of things on continual repeat. It's such a shame to just be saving things for "best", and I feel more justified in buying new things if I know I'll get lots of wear out of them (back to the cost per wear again!)

Thanks @Cardigansalltheway I just realised looking down at the button that they’re Seasalt not FatFace (all much the same beast)

DeathlyQuietNeighbour · 29/10/2022 13:21

In the aforementioned bid to reduce my wardrobe I currently have four pairs of jeans (indigo loose fit, pale blue straight fit, navy slim fit capris, and black skinny)

EnoBaby · 29/10/2022 16:23

Same outfit as yesterday plus Great Plains coat and tan chunky Chelseas.

Just taking the kids to Smyths to spend some birthday money whilst Mr Eno cleans up.

This will be painful...

Excuse pre-going out detritus all around me, I really am too old to be trying on every item in my wardrobe before going out....

Just back from a wee trip into town - a bit too Christmasy already, and it’s not even Halloween yet! Skater dress from EMP, with boots from Stuart Weitzman, and a very ancient leather jacket
