Secret wedding, what would you wear?

I've been with DP for 12 years we are early 30s. For various reasons we want to be legally married but we have a disabled child who can't cope being away from us for a long time. We are going to nip along to get married when he is at special needs nursery in the morning at 10am! Just us.

We are very in love and I actually don't really mind about a big thing.

My question is... What would you wear? I have quite an easy shape to dress, hour glass 10-12, I'm 5ft 8, autumn colouring, I suit a bold lip.

I don't feel I would remotely want a big proper wedding dress... But I'd still like to look gorgeous! Can anyone inspire me, what would you wear if you were me?!

Bombshell HQ website. The satin ones are fabulous

FreshFaceTime · 27/09/2022 19:21

Why don't you book in for a John Lewis personal styling session and try a few things on? I've done a couple and they've been fab - no hard sell or pressure to buy. I've always ended up buying things I wouldn't normally have looked twice at, they just seemed to know what colours/styles would suit me.

The dress is beautiful op. Congratulations to you both.

PutOnAHappyFace · 27/09/2022 19:42

This is what I wish me and DH had done, so romantic and at the end of the day all that matters is that you're both there. No dress help but congratulations.

akabluebell · 27/09/2022 19:43

If you're near Oxford The Ballroom at St Clements has fabulous dresses at very reasonable prices.

Dear Girl, if you can’t do dramatic on your wedding day, when can you?!

Go for it!!

tellmewhatwouldyouwear · 27/09/2022 19:48

So many fab ideas thanks everyone! So glad I started this thread.

I'm finding the idea of the marriage just being for us quite liberating. I usually find other people's weddings exhausting, I wouldn't never tell them but 10 hours of socialising is so tiring!

@Umbellifer

It's ridiculous I'm worried about looking too glam! I used to be much more showy but ours lives changed so much with our son I've become very understated. It's silly

I'd get the teal velvet jumpsuit from Nancy Mac! Lots of beautiful dresses there.

Congrats, OP.

kittybloom · 27/09/2022 19:55

I’d do a personal shopper at a good department store near you or maybe at Reiss? I would try Reiss, Nancy Mac and Onjenu.

Is black a very odd choice?

Do you know what your partner is wearing? I think I'd think about that a bit, not that you have to match, more that a huge clash might not be great. Obviously with traditional white this is not so much of an issue! Congratulations, this is what I would have done if I hadn't felt a tiny bit of regret towards family- I'm glad I had them there, it was a small wedding, but having just the two of you seems very romantic to me.

haribonoyoudont · 27/09/2022 20:02

This is actually from another S&B thread, but reckon it would look great with your shape and colouring: www.monsoon.co.uk/veronique-velvet-shirt-dress-green-34345966.html

I think family will understand... We love our son more than life.

Is this too dramatic lol

This dress is amazing! And it sounds like it really suits your colouring, I say go for it!

Umbellifer · 27/09/2022 20:12

I had to give myself permission- after a talking-to from my best friend - to indulge and do what I really wanted. She said exactly what I’ve said to you, if you can’t do it on your wedding day, when can you; like you I’d got used to not making a fuss…but wow did I feel gorgeous on the day, full-on frock, hair and make-up done. Spoil yourself 🥰

Defiantlynot41 · 27/09/2022 20:14

The black is lovely, very Vivienne Westwood, but you have the rest of your life to wear a little black dress so I'd go with a colour that suits you. I can on here to say Nancy Mac (their service is really good too) but loads of PP beat me to it!

That's a good point. I won't do black I think he will wear a blue suit. He's very stylish so it will be a nice one! He looks a bit like a younger Idris Elba

That dark red is the classic one, definitely.

RaininginDarling · 27/09/2022 20:18

Congratulations 🎊 How lovely! It sounds like you would look stunning in the velvet green Nancy Mac jumpsuit.

I have the red velvet - it's gorgeous. I'm getting married next year in the ivory sable dress with the lace shrug. Dress was £200. Shrug about £130, I think. Looks fab together. Going to dip dye and shorten the dress after, the shrug I'll continue to wear after. The lace duster is fab too...

Umbellifer · 27/09/2022 20:21

At this rate we’re going to need photos of the pair of you looking gorgeous!!

Myshitisreal · 27/09/2022 20:30

Please get the red dress if that's what you like. None of the dresses suggested are near that style or even match up to it, so if that's your style go for it. Its stunning. 😍

DobbleDobble · 27/09/2022 20:35

we eloped earlier this year, literally just us two.2nd time around with nearly 4 adult children, decided to just do it…. Best thing ever!

I bought my dress from needle&thread, plenty of different colour dresses, some wedding type, some evening gown type.hth.

averythinline · 27/09/2022 20:39
