Diamond engagement ring

Asking on behalf of a friend who can't be arsed to sign up!

She and her dh are looking to upgrade her engagement ring. No idea what's she's looking for but she doesn't want the usual high street jewellers.

Is Hatton Garden any good or does anyone have any recommendations for little known jewellers who can make it more bespoke? I think she'd like to trade in her original ring if she could to help with cost of the new one.

TIA

I really recommend 77 Diamonds, my engagement ring was from there. I’ve had other rings from Fenton as well, and a friend’s engagement ring is from there and gorgeous.

Thank you

We used Samara James for both engagement and wedding rings. They're mostly online but have a showroom in Shepperton. They have hundreds of designs and also do bespoke. One thing that I liked about them is that they will lend you a silver replica of your ring so that you can try the style out for size.

Or for soemthing really unusual and fabulous...Ruth Tomlinson. I would buy everything she makes if I had the money.

@ChilliPB I'm hoping for an upgrade and was looking at 77 Diamonds. So much cheaper than beaverbrooks where my first engagement ring was from! The price does make me worry!

Are there any stones in the original ring that could be used in a new one? Then she could buy one or more to get what she wants? Samara James as mentioned above does this. Unfortunately you don't get much value back on rings as such and she would be better selling or using as I mentioned.

I got my engagement ring from The Diamond Shop. It was over 16 years ago and I recall going to Farringdon, just looked it up and seems it was Hatton Garden although I don’t recall that bit. Very lovely personal service and in all a great experience.

@pinkyponkyplink They have much better reviews than Beaverbrooks! Look online at Trust Pilot etc.

They are just completely different business models. Beaverbrooks is just a big high street retail jewellery brand with physical stores. 77 diamonds specialises in diamonds and made-to-order and is online only (although it has showrooms).

Oh and on 77 Diamonds actually go through the process and see how much it would cost - the front page prices are for the setting only, the final cost will depend on what diamonds you choose (size, quality etc). Then compare like for like with other jewellers (eg the shape/cut/clarity etc of the diamond).
