Knee socks!!!

Snog · 27/09/2022 16:46

I'm a huge fan of knee high socks in the winter but they are really hard to find.
In the past I've found the odd pair at M&S, H&M and Boden but no luck this year.

Has anyone else found nice knee high socks this season?

Ideally I'd like a high percentage of cotton, wool or bamboo and I don't want white, grey, navy or black. Other colours and also patterns all good.

palava.co/collections/socks

I don't know what they're like as socks not my thing but they look lovely.

TheOGCCL · 27/09/2022 17:01

Falke?

Snog · 27/09/2022 17:05

Great suggestions thank you.
If anyone has any more suggestions that would be great especially ones that are a bit more affordable.

Does anyone else share my love of knee high socks? I find them a lot warmer under trousers.

Genevieve Sweeney

Rock Ruby

I love a good long sock and often buy smaller size 6-8 mens socks as they tend to be longer and plainer

I've always found knee high socks difficult to find even in mid-winter. Even in a large-ish sock department (like M&S or John Lewis) the great majority are ankle socks - I feel like holding them up and shouting out, "Hello, it's winter!"

Many of the knee-highs are made of very thick wool too, all right for hiking boots perhaps, but not the type which fits into a smart shoe, which is why I've started knitting my own.

I think the last knee highs I bought were from Tesco, some of which were snowflake designs which lost their stretchiness in the wash.

I don't wear trousers. It's possible to get tights of 120 denier and even higher which are super duper warm with a dress.

I'm afraid whilst there are some gorgeous knee high socks in wool, cotton or even alpaca they do seem to be an upmarket option on country life lifestyle stores.

Next do school socks in 4-7 shoe, I wear them, they're super comfy

They're not as nice as Palava or Falke but they are £5.99 per pack of 2 with a high bamboo content.

Pittch do lovely knee high socks but lots of wool and merino, I get the impression you want a simpler type, but long.

Try the Sock Shop, the Sock Company and Happy Socks. In fact if you Google socks you'll find there's heaps!! But the ones mentioned are all really good 😊

Snog · 27/09/2022 17:28

Great suggestions thanks v much!

I was going to say Genevieve Sweeney! Love my socks and knitwear from there.

Try equestrian brands, us horsey types love a good knee sock! We tend to go for bold patterns and colours though so plain tasteful ones may not be the easiest to find!

Snog · 28/09/2022 07:19

Ooh great idea, I'm not sure what brands are equestrian though?

Love them too. Matalan sometimes have cotton ones.

Reading this thread over a coffee and wondering if there's a gap in my wardrobe that knee socks would fill...

HelebethH · 28/09/2022 08:25

These sites all have ladies knee length socks. I have bought in ths past from Moshulu

Thanks for more excellent tips. I came across these just now which I love - quite pricy but they are wool

Just search horse riding socks and loads come up.

Le mieux do some nice ones in various thicknesses. Ariat, Dublin, Shires, Mark Todd, HKM, and Horze, would also be worth a try off the top of my head. Probably others too.

ShineOnYouLikeMorningStar · 18/10/2022 12:24

Hi @Snog, IDK if you found any long socks, but I got these today in Tesco. 69-74% cotton, £8 for a pack of two pairs. They even do them in two size options (which pleased me immensely as I'm a size 3 & most socks are far too large in the foot). I also managed to get some plain black 100 denier knee length pop-sock types in Boots a couple of weeks ago, in the tights section.

Knee socks!!!

@ShineOnYouLikeMorningStar
