What does your pixie hair look like?

Considering getting my hair cut very short again. I’ve just had a big change in my life and it sort of feels cathartic to me, like a burden shifted and saying goodbye to something bad.

Saying that, I often don’t stick with it and then have the horrendous grow out stage. But I’m so ready now and it’s only hair.

My big question is: what does your pixie look like and what did you ask the hairdresser for? Pictures would be fabulous please.

I’ve had one for years and have played around with exact style and colours over the years. Im not up for sharing a photo but this is a fairly good copy of both current cut and colour

Thanks @GameOfLifer that’s really beautiful!

I ditched my bob in favour of this crop - I'd had the same haircut for years and remembered when I was younger how regularly I'd try something new. I like this as on one side it's a wee bit longer, whereas the other side it's cropped really short. Might be a good way to try out before you commit to a short cut all over Grin

And since I've had it cut I've become a huge fan of bright lipsticks. A crop just seems to need something bolder. I love it

Not going to post my own face but this is pretty much exactly what mine is like. It used to be completely buzzed and then I grew out the top while keeping the sides buzzed. Now its all got a bit long and I really like it, I can do a little plait in the top when its hot or I am doing housework and want it out the way.

Oh I love that one @Sandysandwich and yours @Sockbogies - like you, I’ve had a bob for years and want a change.

I’m not sure what to ask for, though..

Could you book a consult first- where you say what you like and ask what would suit you and they might be able to advise?

Sockbogies · 27/09/2022 12:39

I went through a couple of phases before I ended up with the crop in the photo I posted. I do think I should have just cut to the chase and got it done straightaway as I get more compliments about it now, whereas earlier versions were a bit "Lego hair" if you see what I mean.

whatatanker · 27/09/2022 14:07

Yes I know what you mean about Lego hair @Sockbogies I will probs go v short straightaway.

@Sandysandwich that’s a great idea.

I had mine all chopped off recently. It looks a bit like Kaley Cuoco’s pixie cut.

(I’m not as beautiful as she is but I am blonde lol. I love my new hair.)

Oh @Sidge that’s lovely. I’m brunette but I reckon that style would work. How do you find the maintenance?

I've got a Quant cut 😀

@whatatanker what maintenance?! 😁

I wash it, run my fingers through it and leave it. If I feel like zizzing it up I use a small roller brush to dry it a little more pouffy, then use some salt spray to add definition.

I also wear a sparkly headband to dress it up, or a little side clip (one of those snap clips).

Sidge · 27/09/2022 15:09

I think the secret with a pixie cut is to find a good hairdresser who knows how to actually cut short hair. Mine is ace.

My hair is fine and straight so I said I didn’t want it to look chopped or scissory (you know that “stepped” look) so he razor cuts most of it.

That’s so great that it’s easy to do.

I actually meant the maintenance in terms of having to get your hair cut frequently, but to be honest my hair at the moment looks crap if it goes over 6 weeks since the last cut so it might not make that much difference!

OP posts:
Sidge · 27/09/2022 20:16

Ah yes it does need cutting more often. I’m due in again this week and it’s looking a bit shapeless now but not too bad. I wouldn’t want to go more than about 6-7 weeks really. There’s obviously a cost implication there.

But I do use less shampoo and conditioner! 😆

Good hairdresser is a must! Have a look at their photos on insta and check they've actually done short women's cuts, or go to a barber. Definitely take a photo of a cut you like.
