Custom made shoes

Just wondering if anyone has had custom made shoes to help alleviate badly collapsed arches ( flat feet) alongside other conditions ( in this case external tibial torsion and femoral retroversion?) or other foot conditions. They are really expensive ( almost 3k) but if it helps relieve pain and prevent the condition worsening then it is something we might consider.
It's for adult DS, he is earning good money and can afford it right now, but if anyone has any experience/recommendations/comments it might be really helpful, as we don't want to to make an avoidable expensive mistake. Just don't know how much difference it will make compared to orthotics.
Not really style or beauty I know!

Feet are actually miracles if design which are terribly badly served by modern footwear. I'd really encourage anyone with sore feet to start here

Thanks FinallyHere, only just seen your reply!
DS has been under doctor for years but there are skeletal issues which only surgery can resolve, and the surgery is considered too risky at present. We are considering having shoes made to help make DS more comfortable, and wonder if other people have fund that custom made shoes help more than orthotics - our question is, is it worth the vast expense? NHS options are very limited for a young man, and will take years to get.
