Footwear with autumn/winter midi dresses?

For literally years I have worn knee length/just above the knee dresses and skirts with opaque tights and flat shoes, brogues or loafers. But I just can’t make flat shoes work with the midi dresses, so I assume it’s ankle boots with a heel? Is there no flat shoes option that might do the trick? I’m guessing not …

I find platform trainers, brogues with a small heel, Chelsea boots and lace up military style boots all seem to work ok with midi skirts and dresses.

I struggle too! In the summer midi dresses with trainers worked well. But for Autumn /winter, I’m not sure how to style.

it seems ankle boots with a heel are the only thing that works? But I don’t like to wear heels to work.

I have this problem too! I have some Chelsea boots but they just look frumpy on me with midi/maxi length styles.

I usually wear tights in winter and that doesn’t work with trainers.

I prefer not to wear heels if I’m not going anywhere special as I tend to do quite a lot of walking.

The struggle is real 😂

A lot of people do midi dresses and very chunky boots like DMs if that's an option.

Swearwolf · 19/09/2022 08:00

I always do ankle boots, I wouldn't wear boots with a heel though, just flat ones. I wear either DMs or Chelsea boots.

Summer dressing always seems to be easy but I never quite nail it in the colder months!

I wear my dresses with trainers or DM boots.

Ladyofthelake53 · 19/09/2022 08:37

I wear mid heel knee length boots or mid heel sock type ankle boots

Ladyofthelake53 · 19/09/2022 08:38

Biker boots possibly

Milknosugarta · 19/09/2022 08:45

Shoe boots. Look right and are comfortable (not too high a heel)

Isabelle70 · 19/09/2022 08:48

I go for a lace up ankle boot, sort of biker style but not too heavy as I am short with small feet with midi dresses and skirts.
If I wear Chelsea boots I look a bit like a farmer as they are not snug around the ankle.

DrNo007 · 19/09/2022 08:52

Doc Martin’s and similar flat lace up boots. On me they look good with midi dresses/skirts.

If anyone could post a link to any of their suggestions, that would be great

Trainers or dm boots

HikingBoots · 19/09/2022 09:14

For this purpose, for work, I'm looking for a perfect pair of 'shoe boots'. This sort of shape, but I want them to be sleeker and finer: www.lotusshoes.co.uk/black-patent-maya-stiletto-heel-shoe-boots-lotus-p13560/s77953?cid=GBP&glCurrency=GBP&glCountry=GB&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIu92CnLSg-gIVjJftCh0_cA0NEAQYHCABEgLQZPD_BwE
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

Lace up ankle boots here, or low block heeled suede ankle boots.

ChocolateSpreadOnToast · 19/09/2022 09:26

I have these, all fur lined so super warm. And I want the third ones.

Good leather knee boot, classic and stylish. Brown, black, burgundy, teal and mustard, even.

@HikingBoots I'm on the search for something similar!

These are my current front runner
