OK am I extravagant?

I tell myself you get what you pay for and should use what you like and what suits you but these days I seem to like high end everything as follows:

Liz Earle cleanser, toner and moisturiser
Wella shampoo and conditioner or Liz Earle
Clinique foundation, lipstick and perfume
Clinique or Estee Lauder perfume

I have very sensitive skin and eczema so need to be careful what I use. I use basic body creams and get that on prescription.

I work full time and earn a decent wage but still worry about spending a lot in these times.

They're not high end, so no need to worry. HTH.

SuffolkUnicorn · 18/09/2022 14:03

I tried the Aldi version of Liz earle and it was nothing like it

Ponderingwindow · 18/09/2022 14:09

I have severely sensitive skin and get almost no choice in my products. Many times there will only be one of a particular item on my safe list. Sometimes it is from those brands which are among the more affordable and easily accessible options.

whatsup00 · 18/09/2022 14:20

No one would believe me if I wrote about what cleared my skin up.

But I will say that I've bought a variety of products and ironically the very cheapest one worked.

blueskyeve · 18/09/2022 15:01

Definitely not extravagant, not to me anyway. I've actually switched to Liz Earle from a more luxury brand to save money. I used to use a lot of Liz Earle and Clinique when I was in my twenties, but as I made more money and got older I went a bit more high end. But recently I've felt that I was spending too much and noticed the expensive products made little difference so have switched back on some products.

Cats4life · 18/09/2022 15:02

Those arent really high end brands though, they just arent cheap rubbish brands.

I love spending money on things I like and why not when I work hard for my money and can afford it.

I wouldnt go without my estee lauder face creams but I'd hardly say that's extravagant, that pretty middle range.

BruceWaynettaSlob · 18/09/2022 15:07

I don't think these brands are considered high-end. If you can't afford them then they are definitely extravagant though.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/09/2022 15:16

Doesn’t sound like that much

Foundation is the thing not to skimp on, you could probably try cheaper lipstick

It might be worth trying Nivea Q10 or something rather than Liz Earl, there are a lot of affordable skin care brands around

citygirl1961 · 18/09/2022 15:41

Thank you for your advice everyone. Very reassuring. I ask this question because I am a born worrier and can't help worrying about spending money but I don't feel so extravagant now.

When money was tight, I downgraded my skincare to Lacura by Aldi and I have never looked back. The hot cloth cleanser and the overnight face mask are superb quality.

However, I would never preach at anyone to change their skincare regime if they can afford it and they like the way it works.

BananaBling · 18/09/2022 15:49

But you've been asking this same question all over the internet for years and years, always centred around LE, No7 and Clinique: It's always the same and I think you've recognised in the past that this is some sort of mental health issue that consumes you, even though it sounds innocuous.

It's not getting better so maybe consider some sort of counselling - it would honestly get to the root of it once and for all

orbitalcrisis · 18/09/2022 15:54

Stop using makeup and perfume. You look and smell fine.

memyselfi · 18/09/2022 16:08

Well if it's making you worry then stop.
Have you really been posting about this for years ?
Life is too short for that carry on, do you worry about other issues?

Zeeza · 18/09/2022 16:13

Youre such a tease. Was it lard?

I thought that's what forums were for, to post questions and ask opinions but I haven't been asking the same thing for years.

What do I mean? I mean exactly what I put and I'm recommending counselling kindly, not horribly

You have dozens and dozens and dozens of posts about no7 and Clinique and lots of angst about it all both on here and other forums

I mean, on the one hand it's harmless but I also know from previous threads that this is a mental health issue for you.

Of course you can post what you like. I'm just saying that it's probably time to address this once and for all and get to the root of it as it's been many years

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 18/09/2022 20:29

I sometimes buy the Premium Petrol because 'they' say it cleans the engine and you get better miles per gallon.

I don't think it really does either of those things but I like the 'push the boat out' occasionally even though I can't really afford it.

It's a shame you can't get a sticker to put on your car so that other road-users know that I'm using a more expensive fuel than they are.

Riverlee · 18/09/2022 20:38

It’s up to you what you spend your money on. You may prefer to spend your money on more expensive skin products, whilst others may prefer a designer handbag, or to spend it all on booze at the weekend. As long as you can afford it, enjoy it.

Bobble33 · 18/09/2022 22:10

I agree with BananaBling you have been posting about No7 foundations and Clinique foundations and lipsticks on this forum for a long time asking for opinions.
