The face cream I have been using for many years has suddenly started to irritate my skin, makes it feel itchy with a burning sensation. Sadly I've a stockpile so it'll have to be used up as body cream.

I had a pot of Polaar eternal snow in an advent calendar, lovely but at £43 a pot a bit pricy, other than that it was perfect.

I am looking for a thick cream, for mature, dry, menopausal skin. Maximum spend £25, not tested on animals, fragrance free if possible, I don't mind my face looking shiny. I absolutely hate having a tight feeling to my face so needs to be very moisturising.

Thank you to anyone with a suggestion.

After years of trying all sorts of different brands I’ve recently gone back to Nivea and it’s working really well. This one is very moisturising Nivea Q10
I’m not sure on the animal testing though as info online is a bit contradictory

Holland and Barret is where I get mine from. Lots of cruelty free products with transparent ingredients, so I can avoid anything with alcohol as it is really drying.
I use the pure argan oil, Dragons blood and vitamin c.

I really like the basic blue tub Nivea for face and body as a night cream over my retinol serum.

Boots No7 have recently released a skin care range for menopausal skin. I haven't tried it but might be worth trying.

redferrari · 17/09/2022 22:00

Highly recommend Cetaphil lotion

Astral ginormous blue pot is great. It's not as thick and gloopy as Nivea blue pot (though I like that too)

The Nivea Q10 mentioned above is an excellent really hydrating cheap cream- usually on offer at about a fiver somewhere.

If you want to spend a bit more and have more "ingredients" then the Boots N7 ranges are great creams.

Nivea blue pot - cheap as chips and lasts an age. I use it as a bit of a mask. My day to day and night cream are Garnier Organics at the moment. The night is lavender but not strong, v soothing. Bit have really good consistency a bit of oomph and soak in well. About £10 each, i pick them up in Sainsburys or Superdrug. Tried loads of others keep going back as skin now super dry and menopausal.

I've recently been using Lidl's brand 'Cien' - a Q10 anti-ageing moisturising serum.

It's amazing. I no longer have to fork out squillions of pounds for Boots' stuff. Honestly - I wouldn't have believed it myself, but their Cien range really is worth trying. (And no, I'm not being paid by Lidl!)

BIWI · 17/09/2022 22:15

At £2.99 it really is a bargain!

florenceandthemac · 17/09/2022 22:16

Aveeno

Saltovinegar · 17/09/2022 22:55

Thank you everyone you've given me lots of ideas. I've used my current cream for so long I'm out of the face cream loop.

I suspect the formula has changed because the company has been bought by someone else (again). I use a lot of the brand and I'm becoming very disappointed with a lot of the products but it's easier to find decent body products, face cream is very personal.

Body shop hemp face cream, its amazing for dry skin

tortiecat · 17/09/2022 23:00

I know you said up to £25 but this is £1 more, and there are sometimes offers to be had on the website. I really love Liz Earle stuff.

It's really good stuff!

CuriousMama · 17/09/2022 23:13

Great thread. I was using Aldi caviar but seems it's no more?

Reallyreallyborednow · 17/09/2022 23:18

Slightly unusual but I got this Neals Yard Jasmine cream recently.

wasn’t too keen on the smell at first as it’s very Jasmine but that does fade after it’s opened.

but the cream itself is amazing, very light and non greasy, but very moisturising. I have had far fewer spots and blemishes, and my skin feels really soft.

nivea and anything petroleum based doesn't work for me.

Recommend me a face cream please.

Aldi Q10

It is seriously good. And really cheap..

JW13 · 17/09/2022 23:36

@CuriousMama I use this too and would 100% recommend but I'm not sure it's in stock all the time - I think it's usually a special buy so I stock up when it's available....

APurpleSquirrel · 17/09/2022 23:39

Nivea Q10 for day (the one with SPF30) & the Aldi Q10 dupe for nighttime. I also use face oils - Rosehip Oil in the morning & my own mix at night.

NotLactoseFree · 17/09/2022 23:56

I have been liking the SalinHughes drench cream.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 18/09/2022 05:31

I use raw shea butter or La Roche Posay then a thin layer of vaseline. Keeps my skin lovely

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 18/09/2022 08:09

Nivea Q10
