Protected Species sizing

I’m in the market for a new rain coat for work. I’m very taken with the Protected Species trenchcoats (they have a hood!!!) but I need the wisdom of the hive mind on sizing.

The largest size seems to be 16-18 but described as “elegantly oversized”. I’m an 18 but largely due to big boobs and a bit of a belly. I want it to wear over work dresses so no worries about needing space for bulky sweaters. Does anyone know if “elegantly oversized” means “we’ve got you, it’ll still fit if you’re carrying a bit of timber” or is it code for “don’t even think it if you are more than a stick insect after a big dinner”?

I bought the Commuter in a 10-12 and am an in-between ish size myself. I love it! Great quality and definitely enough space for bulky jumpers underneath, it's exactly what I wanted.

I'm trying to justify why I need another style from their range...

I think they do free returns if you're in the UK so would give it a go.

I have two PS coats.

The Mac I got in 12-14 and it’s a good fit, I’m very much a 14 atm.

The winter parka I got in a 14 and it’s a good fit too, neat without being tight.

They’re quite good at responding via email/social media so you could message them for further advice.

Alternatively consider the tour?

the new trench looks lovely and I wish I could justify it, trying to convince myself the tour might fill a gap in my wardrobe but really how many coats does one woman need 🤔

I have an old trench/mac but just looked up the order and it was sized as an L, that's how old it is! Their CS is very good though so I'd contact them, as a pp suggests, to ask advice.

Actually I also have a City Walker (fantastic jacket) and that's a 12-14, which I'd say is true to size or perhaps a shade oversized.

Oooh I've just looked and the new trench is much nicer than my old-style mac! I got the mac at a bargain sale price many years ago and despite misgivings have had so much wear out of it because it's sooo light and nice to wear - I would really recommend their stuff. I'd love the new trench in traditional beige colour
