What colours suit you if you have dark hair?

I’ve gone from blonde to dark and I look completely different. I find a lot of my clothes just blend in with my dark hair now and I think I need to try some different colours. When I had my colours done years ago, I was a ‘winter’ and I have always worn black with my bleached blonde hair but it doesn’t look right any more. If you have dark brown hair, what colours do you wear that bring you alive?

PS I think cool colours suit my complexion better than warm colours eg no orange or brown.

I'm a winter. Jewel tones look good all year and brighter almost neon with a tan

Dannexe · 15/09/2022 21:35

What’s your skin tone?

RampantIvy · 15/09/2022 21:37

I'm a jewel winter with brown eyes, dark hair and pale skin.
The colours that look best on me are indigo blue, emerald green, royal blue, red and purple.

I am very pale but do tan (well used to) in the summer. I have hazel eyes. My natural hair colour is mousey brown.

I’ve never worn jewel colours at all. I just looked in my wardrobe and it’s nearly all black, white or stripy.

I’m a cool clear (winter) and suit jewel colours. The trick is contrast rather than plain colours, so adding a silver necklace over a dark top, or a fur trim on a jacket, stripes, coloured buttons etc

21secondstogo · 15/09/2022 21:44

I will definitely try jewel colours as I think they would be a contrast with my dark hair.

If you had your colours done, look back at your wallet. It isn’t affected by your hair dye. You might want to look at different colours from your selection.

My hair is naturally dark brown, pale/light tanned, freckly skin with hazel/green eyes. Depending which box colour I buy, my hair might be more chestnut in colour.

Colours that suit me are red and emerald green. I assume these are 'jewel' colours, but never heard the term. I find pastels are draining and dont suit me at all. I also don't wear purple, orange or pink.

You might be an autumn and not a winter, in which case warm and rich colours would suit you. Have a look at seasonal colour analysis online it will help you choose the right colour for you.

Another cute fit jewel colours! I'm a winter (although blue eyes and dark hair). Always get compliments in red, emerald and bright blue.

Normandy144 · 15/09/2022 23:15

If you've already had your colours done then that won't change. So if you're a winter then cool and vibrant is your pallette but over time different colours within that pallette might work better. Revisit your wallet and try other colours or go for a re-rate with your colour consultant.

Agree with jewel colours. I also love red.

I'm pale skinned with dark hair. Black is too severe to wear on my top half so close to my face. I look better in navy or charcoal grey if I want to wear something dark on my top half. White is also too severe against my face. That light camel/tan/beige colour is more flattering.

Whatsthepointofmosquitos · 15/09/2022 23:22

Burgundy red

Emerald green

Electric blue

Baby pink / baby blue

Avoid black unless you have a lot of makeup/jewellery on to brighten the look.

I'm a winter, can't remember which one, the one that flows on from autumn. I have blue eyes, pale skin (never tans) and brown hair. I suit black, white, navy, most blues, cerise pink, purple, bright greens, burgundy. Basically any saturated colours.

21secondstogo · 16/09/2022 07:35

I like burgundy and that would be a good alternative to black.

I don’t have the wallet still but I googled and there’s lots on the colours on Pinterest.
