Fallen in love with a limited edition perfume. Do I just buy as many as I can afford?

I’ve got some Givenchy L’Interdit Millesime and haven’t found a perfume I’ve loved this much for years. I thought I would be able to enjoy wearing it for as long as I wanted and then the sales assistant in Boots told me it was a limited edition. I’ve tried the other L’Interdit variations and none smell as gorgeous on me as this. Do I buy as many as I can afford (request it for birthday/Christmas) or just accept I’ll only be able to enjoy it for as long as it’s available. It’s a very first world problem I know, but there are so few perfumes I absolutely love that I can actually afford to buy.

I would stock up - I've had perfumes (as in, the same bottle) for twenty years and they still smell perfect. If you store perfume somewhere cool and dark they will last forever.

Zeeza · 12/09/2022 17:48

I dont know your finances. I'd be tempted to have two or three bottles if I really loved it that much. But I would be nervous about getting more in case I went off it. Or it went off.

Keep your eye open for gifts with purchase etc. And if they do discontinue then there might be a sale of them.

SharpLily · 12/09/2022 17:48

Buy them all. I didn't know my favourite perfume had been discontinued until too late and I've never since fond anything I love as much. I wish I'd bought them all up in time!

bellac11 · 12/09/2022 17:51

Every single perfume that Ive fallen in love with has eventually been discontinued, some after quite short periods, Ive managed to get some stuff from ebay but I buy as much as I can. I got the last amount of Escada Sport Country Weekend some years ago, still using it now

Acqua di Parma Mediterraneo Blu is another, various fragrances within it, discontinued and now I have to scrabble around finding it on ebay

Astounding · 12/09/2022 18:01

I’ve been lucky in that the perfumes I wear have run and run but this one has something I absolutely love. So annoying that they do this limited edition thing. I shall look out for offers and try get a few in stock. I’ll ask how long it’s going to be available before they stop selling it. Thanks for the advice.

Yes, because prices will go up on Ebay. I'd buy as much as you can and store it in the dark. Check if perfume parlour has a dupe.

AdoraBell · 12/09/2022 18:04

If you can afford to then yes. My favourite perfume is Givenchy 111. Having spent years looking for it I found it Amsterdam. Bought one there then found Harrods sell it, they had 1 bottle available, so I ordered it. I’ll keep ordering whenever I can afford to.

AdoraBell · 12/09/2022 18:09

BTW, I bought a Givenchy 111 on eBay and it’s a fake. Wrong bottle, wrong colour liquid and wears off after a couple of hours. I was gutted. This was before the shop staff in Amsterdam told they had limited the shops selling it, not discontinued it.

Astounding · 12/09/2022 21:50

AdoraBell. Sorry you ended up with a fake . I think I’m just going to try get a bottle of the Millesime when finances allow. I’ve just ordered one off Scentstore for £6 less than the first one I bought in Boots.

It's very annoying isn't it. Personally I'd ask for it for birthday and Christmas and then accept it was a fleeting moment in history

carefullycourageous · 13/09/2022 07:22

I'd buy two then accept it. It is only perfume and you are limiting the future you because you could find something better or you might move on from it.

Being all philosophical about it, everything is temporary Grin

rookiemere · 13/09/2022 07:26

Short answer is yes.
I'm still upset that Dolce and Gabbana stopped making Sicily ( not even marked as a limited edition) and wish I'd bought more bottles when I could.

Prettybubblesintheair · 13/09/2022 07:53

Op is it the nocturnal jasmine one?

Myotherdogsaballboy · 13/09/2022 08:53

prettybubblesintheair. Yes it is. It’s odd because I don’t like any hint of jasmine usually but I adore this .

IvorCutler · 13/09/2022 09:21

Oh, L’Interdit is my favourite perfume but I’ve not seen Millesime. I know what to ask for for Christmas!

Myotherdogsaballboy · 13/09/2022 16:32

IvorCutler. I tried the original and the Milliseme. The difference was quite subtle but whereas I don’t think I’d have bought the original , this had a specialness to it that made me splash out. When I wear it I have to keep smelling my wrist .

LadyOfTheCanyon · 13/09/2022 18:04

You'd be surprised how quickly you can go off a perfume. I'd buy another bottle as back up and see how you go. I've gone off literally every single perfume I've loved at some point.

It sounds lovely!

Back21970 · 13/09/2022 21:25

Love the original and hadn’t heard of this one.

Trip to Boots tomorrow to try😀

Gosh, I’m the opposite - if I live a perfume, I love it to the death.
I would have palpitations if NR for Her EDT or By Killian Angel Share got discontinued !

CeeceeBloomingdale · 13/09/2022 21:28

I'd buy another one but no more. I tend to get bored after a couple of bottles and move on so it would be nice to have another but I'd feel done after two.

Myotherdogsaballboy · 13/09/2022 21:34

OP here after name change.

I'm like JMAngel1. I rarely get fed up of perfumes. There's so few I've found over the years that I love and I rarely find a new one (well that I can afford anyhow). I still wear the original Roma (the men's) that I fell in love with over 35 years ago when my DBs girlfriend was wearing it.

Oblomov22 · 13/09/2022 21:36

Same. Lancôme la unit. I've had four people in shops comment on how lovely is. Was so pissed off when found out discontinuing it.

Myotherdogsaballboy · 13/09/2022 23:55

if you test it do let me know what you think about it. I’ve not had such a thing about a perfume since I fell in love Baccarat Rouge 540 (which way over my budget)

thefoggiest · 14/09/2022 08:12

@rookiemere
I'm still so upset about Sicily. It was such a classy perfume.
Although have you seen this?
