Navy and Black

Hi

I have slowly come to the realisation that black does not suit me and washes me out, navy is a really good colour for me.

Unfortunately most of my wardrobe is based on black, nearly all my coats, winter boots, bags, even trainers have black straps or details...

Is there any easy way for me to start transitioning black out of my wardrobe and navy in - really I need to know if its so awful to wear navy with black? Like would a navy jumper, jeans and black boots be OK? or would a black coat over navy top be OK? A navy coat with a black bag?

I will be buying things in other colours like charcoal grey and neutrals but just really feeling lost and sad about my wardrobe now!

I can't help but I would like to know what's wrong with navy and black (together) as well! I frequently wear black jeans/trousers and some sort of navy top. I'm fine with it but not sure why the navy/black 'rule' exists?!

mynameiscalypso · 12/09/2022 12:53

I really like navy and black together. My DM would be appalled. I think it can look very chic though.

Navy and black has been fine together for years, go for it!

Navy and black is chic! Much nice than just navy or black. add some cream and it's a greta classic colour combo.

Arrg typos

Black and navy can look very chic. Just gradually phase out the black and more navy in

AmbushedByCake1 · 12/09/2022 13:20

I love navy and black together I think it can look very chic.

I think it depends on the quality of the black. It can make other colours look 'cheap'.
The idea to introduce a third colour is good eg a softer, lighter colour like cream or camel.

I wear navy and black a lot. Navy suits me better so I tend to wear it near my face. I have a navy and black reefer coat that is very chic (imo).

cannaethink · 12/09/2022 18:18

I’ll go against the grain here! I don’t like navy and black together.
I hardly wear black at all as it doesn’t really suit me. Navy all the way!

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 12/09/2022 18:22

I love navy and black!! I wear it a lot. It’s probably my favourite combo.

I love dark brown too - it’s more flattering on me than charcoal.

Dark neutrals are where it’s at for me, especially for winter.

Navy and black together has to be the most stylish combination ever. A navy shirt under a black jacket with jeans in either blue or black. My favourite outfit ever was black wide leg pants with a high neck navy sold blouse

silkygold · 12/09/2022 20:19

Those combos are fab @Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree

Valkirie · 12/09/2022 20:29

IMHO black and navy together can be more chic than either colour on its own

I like slim midnight black jeans and a slouchy navy wool jumper together

Vinylloving · 12/09/2022 20:34

Oh very much like that third picture!

Timetomove22 · 12/09/2022 21:19

Thank you all so much!
You have made me feel so much better about my wardrobe (I was feeling overwhelmed at the thought of replacing everything).
Those pics are all fab too, I agree the colours look great together and I'm going to be confident in starting to add some navy pieces in :)
