I love my veja’s but apparently they are mumsy old fashioned and try-hard! That’s according to just one thread on here. What are alternatives I should look at? I’m mid 40s if it makes a difference.

I’ve never heard of Vejas, so just googled the. Think they might well be on my list!

I wear Adidas Gazelles & Sambas, four pairs currently - grey, black, white (with flowers on the heel) & reddy/pink.

I’m 51. Don’t know if I’m considered too old for them. Don’t care tbh, they’re comfy & practical, & I think they look good!

TooMinty · 16/09/2022 20:22

Grey Nikes look boring but I like those New Balance...

If you aren't dressed like Edie from Ab Fab then you aren't "trying too hard" 😂

BiBoop · 16/09/2022 20:25

Adidas Superstars.

SaintVal · 16/09/2022 20:26

51 here - I have all white Adidas Sleeks which are super soft leather. I also have black Nikes with a white tick for walking/school run. Sod what anyone else thinks!

SommerTen · 16/09/2022 20:29

I wear Adidas Superstars & Nike AF 1s.

MissConductUS · 16/09/2022 21:03

Another vote for New Balance. I've been running in them for 20 years.

bob78 · 16/09/2022 21:12

I really woudlnt take MN too seriously. I see as many older women in Nike Air Force 1s that everyone recommends as I do 30 year olds in Vejas. As soon as something gets too popular it's poo pooed on here, Air Force 1s will be claimed for being mumsy too before long.

I never know why teens get mentioned on these threads, who is wanting to dress like a teenager apart from teenagers?! Now that would be try hard!

Mossstitch · 16/09/2022 21:18

@Pigtailsandall I have 'duck feet' 😂 too (and passed them on to my eldest, his first clarks were H fitting). I've discovered if you go to the men's section, even if the same trainers and size as the women's, that they fit better. Apparently men's fittings have a wider toe box. Nikes are my go to now although addidas in my younger days but I can't comment on what is stylish as I'm in my 60s and well past caring so long as they are comfortable for many hours on my feet at work.

Being cool is about wearing what you like and feeling confident. Don't worry about what anybody else thinks. If you like them. Wear them.

Well this is the thing isn’t it. What’s “in” for one age group isn’t in for another. And yet time and time again on here you have everyone saying you shouldn’t consider your age / age doesn’t matter / fashion is fashion etc. I’ve seriously got no idea anymore.

I generally think that when people like me in their 40s start wearing things - like Air Force 1s- it ceases to be trendy anymore. No one in their teens / 20s wants to wearing the same trainers as their Mum. But then I don’t want to wear the same things as my dd…!

Matildahoney · 16/09/2022 21:28

I'm nearly 40, and I wear Nike air Max, AF1s, dunk highs and lows, Jordan mid & highs, Adidas gazelles or superstars, oh and converse

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/09/2022 21:29

I have those Adidas Astir trainers in cream with gold accents - I LOVE them! I’m late 40s (so not cool) and also wear: Adidas Ozelia, Stan Smiths, Continental 80s, and Veja Esplar.

imtoooldforthiscrap · 16/09/2022 21:32

I think you can't go wrong with a good old pair of Converse. They look good whatever age you are and can be worn with all sorts of outfits!

BestCatMumEver · 16/09/2022 21:36

I love my new balance trainers they are so comfy.

Bouledeneige · 16/09/2022 21:37

Former Veja wearer. I love my Nike Blazers.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 16/09/2022 21:38

I wear converse and adidas superstars. Have seen some nice air max but I worry I'm too old as well lol

Usernamefinallyavailable · 16/09/2022 21:41

Will attach some current ones I've saved.

I wear white air max's. Black high top converse. I'm also a big fan of veja's! Classic and neutral.

I live in Stan smiths or Nike AF 1's

Haybo26 · 16/09/2022 21:49

I wear Adidas Stan Smith. So comfy.

kegofcoffee · 16/09/2022 21:53

I found Vejas so uncomfortable, and the pair I tried on where horrific quality.

In the end I bought a pair of On Running 'Roger' trainers. They are by far the most comfortable trainers I've ever owned and seem to go with everything

OhMerde · 16/09/2022 22:03

New balance 327.

oobedobe · 16/09/2022 22:04

I'm not sure one style is in, i see lots of different 'trendy' styles.

New Balance retro looking ones, 237 or 327 - got lots of compliments on mine.

Nike AF1 or probably a bit less common Nike Blazers. I did like my AF1 but all the tweens and teens started wearing them, so I gave them to my teen (who doesn't care about fashion one bit - she hasn't worn them yet).

Adidas Stan Smith are imo the classic white trainer, still wear mine from 5 years ago

Vans are always cool, i like the checkered slip on style

Converse high-tops, again always cool, but seem to be particularly on trend right now. I have a lovely rust brown colour for autumn.

TigerDroveAgain · 16/09/2022 22:19

Stan Smith all the way here (I am 60 though).

broke a bone in my foot so am also rocking some Skechers trainers (actually look ok) and some more granny like white trainers from Pavers: sub Stan but ok

downtonupton · 16/09/2022 22:26

dammit - I am 52 and dont do cool - but apparently my NB 327 are the new Mum trainers....

I got them from OffCuts because they were cheaper and in fun colours....
