Best foundation for 41yr old?

Rosecottage888 · 10/09/2022 08:27

This has probably been done to death, sorry.

Looking to invest a bit more in makeup now I've hit my 40s. I need a foundation that doesn't crease in wrinkles, but is also not too dewy...

I am going to an event in November and would like a flawless cover for it so I guess I'm looking for both an everyday foundation and one for special occasions.

Anyone have that 'swear by' foundation please?

I have tried many foundations over the years. I am 46 and now swear by Armani’s foundation. It’s my go to.

L’Oreal True Match Serum Foundation for everyday

I’m mid 50s and use this everyday, with a very light dusting of mineral powder over the top. Doesn’t settle at all. Moved on from the ordinary True Match foundation when it started to feel and look a little ‘heavy’.

Thank you! Any one in particular? Just had a look on their website there's quite a few 😂

Cheap as chips and available in supermarkets too.

cherrypiepie · 10/09/2022 09:36

No 7 hydraluminous is good too especially if you have dry skin. I finish it with the Aldi dupe of the face veil powder and looks great!

NicLondon1 · 10/09/2022 09:37

I’m 43 and swear by Lancôme Teint Visage… have tried cheaper ones and more luxury ones but this one is best; feels like a moisturiser, stays for ages ,covers blemishes and looks natural, not cakey .

Ostryga · 10/09/2022 09:37

No7 Hydraluminous! The coverage is amazing, it’s moisturising, doesn’t cake into lines.

Nothing beats it and trust me I’ve tried! Best foundation ever.

SheWoreYellow · 10/09/2022 09:37

How are you applying it? I find a primer (currently using the Revolution pore filling one) first, and then using a brush to apply the foundation makes a massive difference to how it looks.

MintyGreenDreams · 10/09/2022 09:37

Armani luminous silk

cherrypiepie · 10/09/2022 09:38

They had a deal on 2 for three and £10 off over £20 so I got three tubes for £20 when it is £15 a tube normally.

Hels20 · 10/09/2022 09:53

@Rosecottage888 - Armani Luminous Silk. It is not cheap but I love it and it gives just enough coverage.

Good point. I've never used a primer maybe that's where I'm going wrong!

Dior forever - it's more matte than I usually use but I find if I spray some 'brightening' finish spray such as iconic it makes it shiny and 'glowy' iyswim?

Attached pic, I'm 50 ( had a lower face and neck lift though for full disclosure ). I love the Dior forever foundation and I use it all through Winter I tend to use Nars tinted moisturiser when it's v hot though.

The Dior stuff doesn't settle in wrinkles which is why I love it so much it also lasts the day for the most part.

I’ll third (?) Boots No7 Hydraluminous. Also, for days when I don’t want as much coverage I like Erborian CC & BB creams.

WrinklesShminkles · 10/09/2022 16:43

@Wagsandclaws
Which version of Dior Forever are you using please (matte or glowy)? It looks lovely Smile

Wagsandclaws · 10/09/2022 17:02

@WrinklesShminkles I use the matte version so that it stays put BUT I spritz with a makeup setting spray by Iconic London called prep set go.
It's the pink one so it suits my fair-ish skin. Just a couple of sprays does the trick and it lasts all day.

I've attached a photo of the two that I use. Also a heads up about a primer - I use Rosalique because it's 50 spf but more importantly it tones down my rosacea redness and evens out my skin tone beautifully.

Then Dior foundation, then Nars concealer and lastly the spray from IC. Smile I can't recommend the Rosalique highly enough!

How did you find your shade for the armani? There's no stockist near me so I've been hoping to order online.

WrinklesShminkles · 10/09/2022 21:24

Thanks @Wagsandclaws I already have the Nars concealer at least! 😄

Binfire · 10/09/2022 21:36

I am a similar age (43 next week 😬) and I too felt the need for something different, my skin has changed recently.
I went to Boots today and tried 15 or 20 foundations across all the ranges and ended up buying the L’Oréal true match one mentioned at the top of the thread. It seems to be perfect, not too light or shiny but not too matte and heavy or sitting in my fine lines either. I would advise going in to a shop without any make up on and trying out loads. There were several I hated. Didn’t think much to the hydroluminous one, despite that being the one I thought I would buy.
The staff seemed quite happy for me to try them all out on my face, then wipe them off. I must have been there over half an hour!

Rosecottage888 · 10/09/2022 21:38

Thanks so much for all your recommendations, really helpful and I can't wait to try them! I might repost back when I've found one...

@Wagsandclaws your skin!!! 😍

I’ve been using Luminous Silk for a year but have found it a bit too dewy over the summer for my combination skin. It stayed slightly tacky on me.

So I just bought Lisa Eldridge’s foundation and it’s beautiful,
perfect colour match, less dewy than LS and lasts longer. Tiny bit of settling into my under eye creases but I always get that now (am mid forties).

RockPaperScience · 10/09/2022 21:44

Forgot to say, I wear Dr Sams SPF 50 underneath and the Lisa Eldridge does well over it.

WorryMcGee · 10/09/2022 21:51

Chantecaille Just Skin, some concealer (I use Laura Mercier) and the Chantecaille powder compact have been game changers for me. I’ve never had more compliments on my skin ever and I’ve tried every foundation on this earth….they’re pricey but a tiny amount goes a long way. I bought them 6 months ago and they still barely look used.

MistyRock · 12/09/2022 08:16

I'm 43 (normal to dry skin) and out of all my foundations the one I use the most is Clinique even better glow. It's not matt but not really glowy either. It's just right. Medium coverage and easy to use.
