Red nails question

Hi,
Would you consider red nails to be classy ( worn with a nice dress & blazer outfit for example )?
I’m heading to a relaxed but somewhat smart event in France and I can’t decide.
Normally i wear a nude colour or just keep it simple but I want to make a bit of effort on this occasion.
Any suggestions welcome 😊
Thanks

Absolutely. But the right red is key, if you’re cool go for a blue toned red, warm, a yellow based one. I love red. Looks great with a tan too.

Me ?
Love them they look sexy :)

Yes. shortish, red nails always look good. Assuming they're really neat and glossy. The French women might be more likely to have natural looking nails but I think too much emphasis is placed on what French women believe to be stylish. Obviously lots of them are very stylish, but their style isn't the be-all and end-all.

I work in FS in the city so pretty formal and red nails are my go to colour.

StamppotAndGravy · 06/09/2022 17:17

In France just go for the nude. Red would count as quite dressy there rather than casual.

I wear mainly red shades. PP is right about skin tone too. My adult DD likes nailsinc reds and I’ve been happy with my various Essie reds. You have a whole exciting world ahead of you!

I like a dark red. It's classic so you can always get away with unlike other colours

I understand what you’re saying but is that really a serious consideration? Some locals thinking she looks a bit formal? I’m not being arsey, I promise but it would not occur to me to change what I was wearing to suit local taste.
Covering up to go in temples etc I understand but now I’m imagining all the cultural faux pas I’ve been making wherever I’ve gone?

Thanks so much everyone. I personally think red nails look great on other people. I’m just not sure about myself.
I’ve also been invited to a French family’s home for dinner.
I know one of the family well- ish but it will be my first time meeting the others.
Is there anything I need to know that I may not be aware of ? I will bring a small gift but should I bring some wine etc
I tried to decline politely initially ( because I cannot speak French very well ) but I think I offended my friend so I quickly did a U-turn and accepted!!
The area of France is Brittany if that makes a difference.
Thanks

If they're like my French family they'll welcome you with open arms, ask lots of questions and feed you up like a queen. You'll be guest of honour. A lovely way to spend an evening.

A small gift and/or wine would be appreciated.

Wear whichever nail colour you like best. Anyone who judges you for your nails is not worth knowing. Neat and glossy nails in red sound lovely. I wear red in France without any hesitation, and you can ask the nail technician to try out different shades to see which suit you best if you're nervous.

StamppotAndGravy · 07/09/2022 07:02

No, really no one cares what colour you wear BUT not many French women would wear red for a casual event or work if OP really wants to blend in. She'll probably look foreign anyway because brands, hairstyles, colouring etc are all subtly different even if you follow local trends Wink

My French friends are obsessed with fudge and shortbread if you can find nice ones. Fancy gin goes down well too!

BrennieGirl · 07/09/2022 20:54

Short red nails are very chic.

CambsAlways · 07/09/2022 21:10

Love short red nails
