Gym proof foundation

I am unfit and overweight, I'm trying to address this and have started going to the gym, I don't enjoy it but need to stick with it. I already feel self conscious in the fitness classes but what's making it worse is that my face becomes very red and sweaty quickly and takes ages to subside / cool down, I just look so awful😣Can anyone please recommend a foundation which would stay put and stop me looking like a hot tomato?

Try some light concealer perhaps or NARS tinted moisturiser? Exercising with foundation is so so bad for your skin. I go bright red too so feel the pain.

daretodenim · 05/09/2022 18:05

I am the same. I can't even moisturise before working out or I sweat under it. It's absolutely horrible. Any foundation that covers enough to hide the red, will likely be the same.

Also, you ultimately need to wipe the sweat from your face (it'll end up in your eyes), so you will end up wiping the foundation partly off.

Maybe fake tan would be better?

schmalex · 05/09/2022 19:12

Honestly, don't worry about what you look like - the gym is one place where it really doesn't matter and everyone gets red/sweaty/etc. It shows you're working hard.

I am quite well turned out in most circumstances but look an absolute state in the gym!

strawberrysea · 05/09/2022 19:21

I get so sweaty in the gym and my main concern is acne scarring.
I used to wear foundation in the gym because I'm so conscious of it but I started wearing less and less of it until now I wear none.
It helps you to acclimate to the new look somehow 😅

You could do the same but then if it takes a long time to go away and you don't like it, bring a tinted moisturiser and put that on before leaving.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 05/09/2022 19:23

There is no foundation in the world that will camouflage a red sweaty face so please don't bother trying. Nobody will care what your face looks like.

BusySittingDown · 05/09/2022 19:29

You're better not wearing any at all and embracing the red, sweaty look!

Whenever I've worn make up to the gym it has caused me to break out. I started washing it off before going. I say this as someone who looks like they've been in a sauna after a workout. Seriously - I'm dripping wet and I look so red it looks like I fell asleep in the sun or something sometimes!

Isittrueornot · 05/09/2022 21:03

This happens to me. Only fake tan works. I use the cheap st moritz one because it never streaks and is so easily. Don’t forget to moisturise knee caps and shins plus ankles and elbows before fake tanning

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/09/2022 21:04

Estee lauder double wear

Feathersandothers · 05/09/2022 21:11

L’Oréal infallible is quite good I’ve found.
I also find a spritz with cooling primer spray and the hairdryer blown on your face on cold setting after the workout takes the redness down , if your gym has hairdryers.

Yellowbird54321 · 06/09/2022 09:50

Thanks for all your replies, it sounds like I'll probably have to learn to live with it! I cba to faff about with fake tan and that would look very weird anyway as I am very light skinned. Cooling spray and hairdryer sound helpful 😊

I was going to say exactly this. Foundation at the gym just ends up looking horrible.

Wombat27A · 06/09/2022 09:57

There was one girl at my gym who could workout in perfect makeup. I have no idea how she did it. I was in awe.

I was always the hot, red, sweaty one.

My personal hate is makeup/perfume in pools, as I can taste it when I swim.

minipie · 06/09/2022 10:01

I have acne and tend to wear NARS tinted moisturiser and NARS creamy concealer to my workouts. It stays put and does smooth things out, without being as thick as foundation.

I’m sure it would be better for my skin to wear no makeup though.

Lastarse · 06/09/2022 10:12

After a while you’ll be less self conscious - I used to be but now I am not bothered. I do wear mascara and have eyebrows sorted but apart from that it’s a waste of time. Embrace the sweat :)

Jamaisy82 · 06/09/2022 10:15

Max factor pan stick. I struggle with acne and terrible uneven skin tone so people think I'm being vain wanting to wear makeup places but I feel I have to cover my skin as so self conscious about it.

Gigia · 06/09/2022 10:15

You can wear a green primer under your foundation or by itself and this reduces redness

Myotherusernamesafunnyone · 16/09/2022 22:35

There is a specialist makeup company designed for this, it's called 'Skin in Motion'

PufferFish · 22/09/2022 13:42

I use a stick deodorant on particularly sweaty areas, like my forehead. It definitely helps. Avoid going for anything too perfumed though as it could irritate your eyes.

CousinGregg · 22/09/2022 16:31

you are meant to look sweaty in the gym. Thick makeup will block your pores. Take a towel and embrace the sweat as a job well done 💪🏼

NeverDropYourMooncup · 23/09/2022 20:13

You really don't want anything that could melt in the heat and run into your eyes. It's far healthier for you and your skin to just let it do what it's supposed to, ie, go red and sweat. And it's nicer for other users to not find smears of foundation on the pads of the leg curl machine.

What could make you feel more confident is to use the very lightest Olay facial self tan - not just before the gym hence the warning about shit getting into your eyes but the night before. By all means shower, wash and dry your hair and then put some makeup on, but red and sweating is what should be happening - and nobody there will think anything of it other than you're exercising.

Or come on over to the weights section - far more agreeable, as you get aircon and nobody's looking anywhere other than about a thousand yards away whilst their brain is focused upon the particular group of muscles they're working on at the time. And you get to sit down whilst doing it, so you recover quickly.

Yellowbird54321 · 25/09/2022 10:33

Thanks again for all the replies, I think I'm just gonna live with the redness. I guess I will feel less self conscious the more often I go!
