Alternative to black liquid eyeliner

My trusty black liquid eyeliner appears to have been discontinued and it's probably a good thing as it's forced me to experiment with a new look.

I'm mid thirties and worn black eyeliner for as long as I can remember on my upper lid. It just looks a bit dated to me now and I'm after a new look.

What eye makeup do you wear on your upper lid? Can you wear eyeshadow as a liner applied with a thin brush? I'm thinking a brown shadow as opposed to a harsh black. Would it last the day?

Aha I have the answer. Laura mercier tightliner cake in mahogany. Someone recommended it here & I love it. Get a flat thin brush to apply. It's a softer look than black.

Depending on your eye colour, maybe a smoky grey, plum, khaki or brown liner? A soft gel pencil applied quickly and as close to the eyelashes as possible can be smudged with a brush or qtip and shaped to suit. (Victoria Beckham and Charlotte Tilbury ones are fab, but there are some equally lovely ones from the drugstore… It is harder to get them in different shades though. I’m a fan of the Flower Beauty Gel liner pencils.)

Tight lining with a good gel pencil (I got Victoria beckham recently in a olive/dark green) on inside of upper lash. My eyelids were getting wrinkly (I’ve 10 years on you) and my liquid liner just looked terrible. I think you get a more subtle definition with tight lining which has been a lifesaver for my wrinkly lids! A nice bit of mascara, some lid primer and a neutral lid and I’m done for every day look.

I've been using the darkest (charcoal ish brown) colour from one of the Nude palettes, mixed on my hand with a tiny squirt of Mac makeup fixer. Looks brilliant, softer than liquid liner, easy to control, and stays on until removed. Use a slanted tip brush

Also agree with @OldYork , olive/khaki green pencil is good, I have a Stila one which lasts and doesn't smear

I've always used the dark eyeshadow in my quad, I've never been a great fan of heavy eyeliner. I used the pointy sponge applicator that comes with palette.

But I have got a dark green, purple, navy, gold and brown eyeliner which I never use! 😁

Thank you for the suggestions, I will take a look at these! I like the suggestion of using shadow with MAC makeup fixer- amazing tip!

I should have said but I am South Asian so have medium brown skin and dark brown eyes. I am not sure khaki will show up on my skin colour so will stick to the darker shades of smokey grey and browns as someone suggested!
