Help me understand jacket arm lengths

I'm so confused about arm lengths on jackets and coats. On the model photos nowadays they seem to have the sleeve covering the hand completely with only the fingers showing. I was brought up to think this is very sloppy. Makes me feel like being put in a school blazer I will grow into.

I dont much like the oversize look anyway. I think it looks good on size 0 catwalk models, but scruffy on most of us mere mortals.

Where do you aim for?

As an extra, do you know any shops that do shorter arms? I hate having to pay to have things altered.

I think sleeves should come down to just meet the thumb webbing. No longer.

I have absurdly long arms, so just glad when they reach near my wrist!
My main issue, is the lack of fabric in sleeves. I never thought I had chunky arms, but for the last couple of years I've had problems with sleeve width. Maybe I shop in the wrong places
