Esther McVey taupe wool coat

When Esther McVey was in the news earlier this year I took quite a fancy to her coat but couldn’t see anything similar in the shops (it was early summer at the time).

It’s now autumn and I was hoping to find a long wool coat in a cool taupe colour but I can’t see anything in the shops so far. Budget is £300-400 or potentially more for something that will last and last…

If anyone has seen anything similar I’d be grateful if you could point me in that direction!

I was following this as I love what I can see of that coat but I see no one has had any suggestions yet! Have you looked at Massimo Dutti? Looks a similar style to their coats and probably about that price point.

@Aestas , I’m so pleased to have you join me on this thread! I’ve also been looking for a trench coat in a similar colour (in fact, I’ve been on a fruitless hunt for a couple of years now!) But cool browns are much harder to find than warm camel colours.

@Askinvillarblues had a thread about cool neutrals the other day too.

This also ticked some of the boxes for me but the lapels are too small - I like having some focus up top (big hips need some balancing out) but sharing here in case someone else likes it!

Ooh I did! That’s a lovely colour. I’m actually eyeing up this green coat at the moment and wondering if that could work as a neutral. Not sure what Mango quality/sizing is like though. They have a light coloured one too which could also work.

@Askinvillarblues third time lucky! I agree the Mango coat it is a cool/blue-tinged green and could work well as a neutral. I like it! Although not quite what I’m looking for myself so I will keep looking…

Following - love this colour in a coat and rarely find it.

I prefer more fitted slimline coats though - I had a beautiful one for a few years from (I think) Banana Republic. It did that thing all good coats do of instantly making you feel great whatever you were wearing beneath.

Sorry OP to be no help at all, but it reminds me of the coat Jill Clayburgh wore in An Unmarried Woman, which is my ideal. I love a good lapel!

My original reply was deleted because someone thought it was publicity - It is not. I simply wanted to help @Valkirie the poster, if she is still looking for this coat. Please have a look at this one I recently purchased from Etsy (www.etsy.com/fi-en/listing/762115532/camel-wool-coat-with-stand-collarbeige?click_key=988b5c4c2cdc2e4631a8e7f49e19d44140953362%3A762115532&click_sum=1407d941&ref=hp_opfy-1&frs=1).
It is made of a blend of wool and cashmere, no polyester stuff added. They are all very lush, I own 4 coats from this shop because they are simply gorgeous and I couldn't stick to only one :-D
By the looks of your picture, I am quite positive this is what you are looking for. The shop owner even made the collar higher as per my request, and I'm sure she has a colour that is similar to that taupe one you were looking for. All her items are made according to your measures. I super recommend it, haven't regretted so far and her coats are top notch and make the ones from high street brands look lame.

@Girl23231 thank you so much for posting (twice!) It's a gorgeous coat and so nice to find something that has no synthetic fibres. They have some beautiful styles, but I would be nervous of buying to order and then finding it does fit/suit?!

@Arewebacktonormalyet no, I still haven't found THE ONE! I'd like a trench coat in a dark taupe / mole colour as well and it has proved equally elusive! The
Weekday one was surprisingly good for the money btw, but it was absolutely enormous and swamped me.
@WobblyLondoner I know, right? I love the insouciant oversized look on other people but I just look like I'm wearing my dad's coat. The last coat I bought I had taken in ever so slightly at the waist and it was enough to stop it looking shapeless, without it looking formally fitted.

@tigerbear the Jigsaw coat could easily be a winner in a different colour! Love that bright green on others though.

@Valkirie To be honest, I never had a problem with the fitting until this last coat I purchased, which for some reason was tighter at the arms. I wrote to her and she immediately apologised, said there was some sort of mix up and then sent me the correct one, which now I am wearing and have nothing to complain about. Like I said, I purchased three other coats before this beige one and they all fit perfectly.👌But, I do understand your fears. Hope you found what you were looking for!
