Retinol and breastfeeding

Just watched a Dr Emma Wedgeworth (qualified derm) and Caroline Hirons video. It was said that using retinoids whilst breast feeding is fine. Has anyone done this? Really missing retinol! And If so, did you use the sort of retinol you'd fine in boots or did you use prescription such as 0.25/0.50 style retinol? Thank you!!

I think it's the risk of sun damage that is the issue. Your hormone levels are altered whilst breastfeeding. Keep slapping on high SPF

Have just started tret and am still breastfeeding but "baby" is 2 and down to 2 short feeds a day. I haven't looked too deeply into it under the circumstances tbh, might have read up on some stuff first if dc was younger and / or feeding more regularly but I suspect it's fine, it's such small amounts and topical I can't imagine it enters breastmilk in any measurable amounts!

Thanks 👍 I'm using SPF 50 everyday regardless as I've terrible pigmentation from the pregnancy. Hence keen to start retinol. Just realised that my 0.25 and 0.5 bottles of retinol are not prescription, it's just that I bought them from a skin spa. My baby is 4 months old so I'm a little nervous....

breastfeeding-and-medication.co.uk/fact-sheet/retinoid-beauty-creams-and-breastfeeding this might be of interest - the woman who writes these fact sheets is a pharmacist, so hopefully knows what she's talking about!
