Funeral shoes

I don't think I have anything appropriate to wear with a black dress. I'm a flip flop / boots person with nothing in between. Heels I have are brightly coloured.

I couldn't wear navy shoes/ clutch with black could I? If not im guessing im looking for a pair of medium heels and a little bag. In black?

I can't even think properly at the minute 😥

I wore sandals to my father in law's funeral. There are all sorts of footwear, at least one person wore trainers

Daisy62 · 01/09/2022 12:24

Sorry for your loss OP.

Have you got a navy dress? Or another outfit that would look better with the navy shoes? Lots of people just wear dark or smart neutral clothes, rather than always black.

Or do you have sandals or boots that would look ok with your black dress? Funerals are mostly a bit less formal these days. Maybe the least bright heels? Wear the navy shoes with the black dress if it's the only option - don't buy new unless you really want to and can afford it.

namechangedyetagain · 01/09/2022 12:36

I don't have navy shoes but I nearly bought these thinking they were black...

My nan probably wouldn't be the slightest bit bothered but I can't let her down by not being spot on. I'll wear black as have my dress buy I'll just need to find some shoes now. Thank you

I wouldn't wear those to a funeral. Can you buy a basic pair of ballet flats? E.g. tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/p/Black-Ballet-Pump-With-Bow/136198870-Black?searchTerm=:newArrivals&searchProduct=

Oh my god are you me? I have my grandad's funeral next week, my shoe collection consists of flip flops, DM bootand several pairs of shoes that won't go anywhere near my now fat feet post covid and not wearing anything apart from flip flops and boots for over two years.

I have to read at the mass so I can't rock up in flip flops.

Hope it goes ok.

grey12 · 01/09/2022 12:41

The main idea is that it isn't super happy+bright. Anything else goes 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tbh, I remember when my DGM passed some friends of DF came straight from where they were to five their condolences. They were wearing nice beach wear and sandals. What's so horribly wrong about that?! They were good friends to get out of their way to see my DF.

Also I saw someone in a zebra dress once 😅 black-ish but definitely not somber

catinboots123 · 01/09/2022 12:44

I wore black wedges (from Primark) for my dad's funeral.

catinboots123 · 01/09/2022 12:45

Oh and I had to run up and down the altar steps a couple of times for readings etc and they felt fine. Not too wobbly!

namechangedyetagain · 01/09/2022 12:45

I can't wear complete flats as they hurt too much.

Hope your grandad's funeral goes ok, I am not sure why im worried but it's something different to focus on at the minute. Have tan heeled sandals, or leopard print 😁

Might head to marks to have a look. Nan would definitely approve of those!

Then get something with a bit of a heel but not those lace things, I don't want to be rude on a funeral thread but they are genuinely inappropriate IMO.

I am sorry for your loss and hope the funeral goes well Flowers

namechangedyetagain · 01/09/2022 13:55

No not rude at all. I am all over the place and needed advice so that's why I'm here! Im now trying to find some low - medium court shoes (I think)

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/09/2022 13:58

Question. Is it a cremation or a burial? The reason I ask is that I went to a burial in heels and the heels were sinking into the ground at the graveside.
I'm sorry for your loss.

Snugglemonkey · 01/09/2022 13:58

I don't know where you are but honestly, the lace ones would be fine here with a black dress.

I’m sorry about your nan…These look fabulous shoes though. I wore silver shoes to my gran’s funeral because SHE loved shoes and loved the ones I wore

Why are they inappropriate? Do you know the op or her nan whose funeral she has to go to?

Diplidocus4 · 01/09/2022 14:07

I wore IC heels to my recent family funeral, a little splash of colour!

LovePoppy · 01/09/2022 14:13

Id wear the brightly coloured shoes personally.

namechangedyetagain · 01/09/2022 14:15

It's a cremation so no sinking in soil until internment day. I want to do my best for her. Trying to find readings today as well but my head is swimming now.

ParkheadParadise · 01/09/2022 14:21

Sorry for your loss I would wear the heels in the pic they look suitable for a funeral.
At my dd's funeral I was 7 months pregnant when it came to leaving the house when the funeral cars arrived the funeral director took my arm and told my I still had my pink fluffy slippers on.

namechangedyetagain · 01/09/2022 14:32

Sorry for your loss of your DD ❤

Nat6999 · 01/09/2022 14:36

Have you any cream shoes, enough of a contrast but not bright.

namechangedyetagain · 01/09/2022 14:47

No, I have red, leopard, fuchsia, and a berry colour. Don't really wear heels much these days

OP posts:
MarmiteCoriander · 01/09/2022 14:56

Sorry for your loss OP.

What about a low wedge? Or these:

londonmummy1966 · 01/09/2022 14:59

Sorry for your loss - berry colour would be fine I'm sure assuming it is a dark red. If you are driving to the service you cold probably get away without a bag by leaving everything except a handkerchief in the car.

carefullycourageous · 01/09/2022 15:52

JudgeRindersMinder · 01/09/2022 14:01

I guess if the OP thought they were right for this funeral the OP wouldn't be asking?

To me they are inappropriate, I gave an opinion and everyone is entitled to do so - maybe your opinion is they are appropriate. The OP is wearing a black dress etc. Some funerals are very un-traditional now, but that is not the impression I get from the OP.
