So skinnies are out…what shall I buy? Mom jeans? Wide legged jeans? Inspire me! (Please no flares though, I’m not ready to go back to those).

Zara sounds more in my price range than Hush….especially if I end up with Jean regret!

Zara or H&M but frankly my most worn pair are from primark. Vintage high waist slim straight leg I think.

I find slim straight leg a really good cut to make the move away from skinnies without feeling too baggy. They are a bit harder to style in autumn/winter though footwear wise.

CoconutAmericano · 31/08/2022 10:39

I've just bought the Stradivarius mom jeans with stretch and they are a great transition from skinnies because they feel like skinnies on top nice and tight fitting but they are slightly tapered towards the ankle. I think they are very flatteting!

LeeMiller · 31/08/2022 10:43

Straight leg? I agree they’re a great way to transition from skinnies. You can’t beat Levi’s 501s imo but & Other Stories jeans are also great quality.

mistermagpie · 31/08/2022 10:43

I wanted to try some new styles and bought a bunch really cheap from Vinted. My faves are topshop Mom jeans and topshop Hayden (which I don't think they make any more but are a sort of less-slouchy boyfriend style).

I am wearing a pair of super dry Riley girlfriend today though and these are actually the ones I probably wear most often, they are slim fit with a tiny bit of stretch and pretty much go with anything. I still occasionally wear skinnies but I feel like they do look a bit dated and are less comfortable now I'm used to looser fits.

Nitgel · 31/08/2022 10:49

I personally like levi 314 shaping straight. Not too loose but not too tight.

isthismylifenow · 31/08/2022 10:50

I am in the same boat.

I feel like I have tried on every pair of jeans around, and I cannot find anything that looks just right on me. I am going to go back to the Levi store and start again in there. I am in another country so no point me saying the store, but just yesterday I tried on about 5 different pairs of straight leg. Why does my bum disappear in straight leg jeans? Its not voluptuous to start with, but it makes me look ridiculous.

I ended up buying chinos and as we are going into warmer weather now, they will be better I think.

Thanks, I am going to have a look for these.

I have the 712 (or is it 721?) but they are quite old and the new ones just are not the same, if one can find them that is. I found a pair and thought great, I am sorted now. Nope, the denim was so thin that even the lumps and bumps were visible through the fabric..... and that was in the same size I already have.

The struggle, I tell ya....

OldTinHat · 31/08/2022 11:17

I live in Next's 'shape and slim' (or whatever they're called, something like that!) bootcut jeans.

TreacsPotNoodle · 31/08/2022 11:27

Nothing beats skinny jeans for me! Not blue thought they have to be a slightly washed black for me.

Weekday Rowe jeans are great if you have a smaller waist to hip ratio.

Zara comfort mom jeans.

H&M have some great fitting straight leg and wide leg high rise jeans but can be hit and miss so best going into store and trying them on.

Footballmatchdilemma · 31/08/2022 11:29

Thanks everyone, lots of good suggestions. Might try some straight legged ones but how long should they be? It’s going to be too cold for exposed ankles soon. And what shoes to wear with them? Does anyone have any good pictures?

I like the straight legged jeans but struggle in the Autumn and Winter to find boots that go with them. It was so much easier with skinny jeans. What boots do people wear please?

TooMinty · 31/08/2022 13:54

Has anyone tried G-Star Raw jeans? Looks like they have a range of styles/fits/colours. Pricing comparable to upper high street. But what's the quality like?

endlesscraziness · 31/08/2022 14:17

I bought Levi's straight leg. Love them

AlternativelyWired · 31/08/2022 14:50

@Hoppinggreen can the turn ups be turned back down? I'm not sure I like turned up jeans.

CoconutAmericano · 31/08/2022 16:34

I still haven't decided what to do about socks and footwear with slim fit jeans. I've only just transitioned over the Summer and I've been wearing trainer socks with trainers or just sandals. I walk to work in trainers so for Mon-Fri I'm thinking knee socks and my usual trainers? For weekend I'm thinking chunky black boots that go further up the leg?

They can but as I’m a short arse I don’t

I'm just coming out of winter now, and I've been wearing my chelsea boots. They are slim boots, not the chunky type. Nothing else looked quite right to me. But I'm long bodied and short legged so I don't suit the rolled up bottom look.

CoconutAmericano · 31/08/2022 21:59

Yea i think I’m going to have to try a few pairs on with the jeans to see how they look together. Im the other way, tall, long legged. I was thinking a big chunky sole going up to narrow smooth high top so the jeans dont get caught in them. Its a hard one! I predict lots of trial and error as more and more women transition out of skinnies!

AlternativelyWired · 06/09/2022 14:29

I've just ordered some of the Hush Agnes jeans. I'm hoping the sizing of jeans is the same as trousers. I've lived in my Monaco ones this summer. So comfortable. I've ordered the blue authentic colour and have my fingers crossed for a denim revolution.

BuntyCollocks · 06/09/2022 20:21

Levi high loose taper

AlternativelyWired · 08/09/2022 23:40

The jeans arrived but I can't do up the button 😩 they fit fine elsewhere but my belly is too vast. I am on a healthier lifestyle kick and have lost 2kg this week so far so I'll keep them and make sure I keep losing the lard.

Ladyofthelake53 · 09/09/2022 08:04

I look like a parsnip in skinny jeans never worn them.i wear straight or bootcut. Usually Next or M&S Eva. I'm going to get some wide legged jeans I think next. I'm 6ft so usually get the tall versions or extra long
