Hi everyone. I’m 40 and have been considering getting braces to fix overcrowding for some time now. I’d like to hear people’s experiences of the good, bad & ugly of both treatments. My concern is not being able to sleep well with either brace in my mouth.

I have so far seen two dentist but don’t think I’ll be having the treatment with either of them. From what I’ve read since I’m now considering booking an appointment with an orthodontist instead. Would anyone else out there agree that it’s better to receive this sort of treatment with an orthodontist?

Finally, bit of a long shot I know, but if anyone has received this treatment at a dental surgery in Nottinghamshire and would recommend it, I’d really like to know.

TIA

I am in month 7 of 18 with fixed braces aged 47, it has been tough, but I am loving the results so far. I also lost a tooth in my 20's and they are successfully closing the gap, very impressed. It's costing me £650 pcm for 6 months. So no holidays and no new car this year, but so worth it.

I have fixed braces. They are painful when tightened up. My biggest gripe is the staining of the bands - they go yellow within a week of being changed. Have to plan my whole diet around places I need to be without manky bands. It's a real pain and cost £7k for the privilege.

My orthodontist uses Teflon bands on my ceramic braces which have not stained at all despite eating curry and drinking red wine.

You can get clear braces, they’re still visible but a lot less visible than metal look train tracks. the brackets are clear rather than the wire.

I had metal train tracks for 16 months and it was fine, didn’t opt for clear but I don’t work in a school! my “issues” were too complex for Invisalign.
