Would you keep or return this?

I've just bought this cape from Roman Originals:

www.roman.co.uk/textured-axtec-print-cape-16045458

It arrived today and I'm really torn as to whether to keep or return it. The material is a lot thinner than I expected, the design is such that there are a lot of loose threads, so a high chance of me or my toddler snagging it, and some of the colours aren't quite what they appeared to be on screen (the dark green is a lot more like light teal for example - not my taste).

BUT it fits so well. It falls perfectly over my 20 week bump and I can see it looking amazing with an all-black outfit. The earthy colours suit my colouring pretty well and as far as style goes, it ticks every box (I'm a bit of a hippie). Plus as it's airy it can be layered when the weather gets cooler.

I'm so conflicted! Does anyone have similar knitwear that they've managed to keep nice? Or would you return it and look for something in a sturdier knit?

Looks nice

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 30/08/2022 17:45

It's £30. I would keep it. If £30 is a significant part of your clothing budget, then I'd look for something else.

OldTinHat · 30/08/2022 17:48

Oooooh I just LOVE that!

knackeredagain · 30/08/2022 17:50

I’d considered ordering that, so interested to hear it’s not as lovely as it looks

carefullycourageous · 30/08/2022 17:51

I would never keep anything I didn't love, unless it was a boring work basic. Use the money for something better.

Sooveritallnow · 30/08/2022 17:58

Looks really nice, can't believe it's only £30, may have to go and get myself one.

The fit is brilliant, i can see it being a useful piece you'd be able to throw on over lots of different outfits. But I just can't get over the fabric - it's so thin and flimsy. I think if it caught on jewellery or anything else sharp it would unravel in 5 minutes! I think I've answered my own question 😢

Yep, send it back.

Go for it! I'd be really interested to see what someone else thinks.

I really like it, can you take a photograph so we can see the colour and quality issue? It doesnt seem a lot of money for what it is but it doesn’t sound like you love it either.

tellyiscrap · 30/08/2022 18:22

I like it so far , can we see a pic of it on you ?

If you don't mind 😄

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 30/08/2022 18:23

Hell if it cheers you up during pregnancy go for it!

ReachedTheEndofCake · 30/08/2022 18:57

You should ask for commission from Romans - I’ve ordered one to try too 😆

Kindofcrunchy · 30/08/2022 19:45

Pics attached. I'm a size 16 for reference with a big baby bump! I reckon it would fall nicely on smaller and larger frames too. Also attached one with some actual light to see the colours/stitching.

When I’m trying to decide whether to keep something, I ask myself “would I have bought this if I was trying it on in a shop?” and I have my answer.

One thing about this, it is acrylic so will bobble really easily 😕

Kindofcrunchy · 30/08/2022 20:03

Tbh I daren't put it in the washing washing machine for fear I might have an unravelled ball of acrylic at the end...

Oh I see what you mean about the fabric! It looks lovely on you and the colours look nice in the light. I personally would keep it for when I wanted to leave the house. I wouldn't wear it around the house with my toddler as she would be pulling at it.

Ah maybe not then!

GettingStuffed · 30/08/2022 20:06

I'd keep it as something to add an extra layer of needed. Especially feeding the baby in the middle of the night

dmask · 30/08/2022 20:11

I hate acrylic so I’d take it back on that basis. Also, it seems very cheap, I would wonder about the conditions it was made in.

Valkirie · 30/08/2022 20:31

It does look great on you! But yes, given that it’s acrylic I wouldn’t expect it to withstand frequent/heavy use or last beyond this season.

tellyiscrap · 30/08/2022 21:19

Love it on you !

Nachtvlinder · 30/08/2022 21:36

Sorry, but you've asked for an opinion - it's awful. Not my style. If you love it, then keep, but if you're having doubts as to the longevity/quality of it, then send back. It'll probably catch easily and the threads will be pulled.

carefullycourageous · 30/08/2022 21:41

It doesn't look good quality, I'd return.
