Dyed over blonde and regret it.

So I lost my job and decided I can no longer afford to get my hair highlighted. My roots were 4 inches long and black.

I dyed my hair with the lightest brown I could find knowing it'll be darker. And omg - I looked hideous. Against my pale skin I looked so ill.

I washed my hair in Head and Shoulders lots of times and have managed to lift the colour to a tan leather colour with blonde streaks coming through. It's very dull but the condition is still super soft.

Is there anything I can do? It's beginning to go brassy (not beautiful auburn!) and against my aging skin, black eyebrows and blue eyes I look very odd.

I did a test strand of bleach earlier and it took 15 mins to lift to a beautiful creamy blonde. Am tempted to do cap highlights as had beautiful results in lockdown but just wanted to see if anyone had any advice first?

Lesson absolutely 100% learnt though!

Eeeek! I know sometimes dying blonde hair dark can result in the hair having a greenish tinge and was told (Dsis is a hairdresser) that it's best to use a dark colour with some red in as it neutralises the green...
How long ago did you dye it brown?
Maybe see if you can wash it out a bit more before attempting some highlights? And maybe section your hair up and try a few strands right in the middle so if it's not great you can't see it wether your hair is down or tied up?
It might be worth going to the hairdresser just once more and ask them to change it into something you could then manage with a box dye at home? X

Grow it out?

Thankfully no green tinge! I chose one with a red base. Hence the neon brass I expect.

chilli I will, but I just want to have slightly prettier hair for an interview next week. They know me from my previous job so they know I was blonde and I think he'll stare at my head instead of listening to me 😂also, I just want that last nugget of self confidence!

Just want it lifted one more level. Don't want platinum or ash tones. Just a little brighter and lighter around the face.
