Boob job or magic bra?

BimbleBrown · 29/08/2022 07:58

After 5 years of breastfeeding and some weight loss, my boobs are a sad-looking 34AAA :(

I've been considering surgery, but would like to consider all other options first - has anyone found any magical bras for smaller ladies? Or read/listened to anything which has made them feel much more accepting?

Alternatively, opinions on surgery would also be really welcome. Not planning to go crazy with the size, just big enough to be able to actually buy normal sized bras and would like to look natural!

Thanks in advance 😊

I would guarantee you that if you tried a 28DD boobs would miraculously appear for you.

What clothes size are you? I am a fat 14 and have been wearing a 34 back even when I was an 18 (OK actually a 20). If you are smaller than me, you definitely aren't a 34 back.

Floraflower3 · 30/08/2022 09:44

If you do go down the surgery group find a good Facebook group.

I’m part of a UK breast reduction group (I’m considering it) and it’s helpful seeing everyone’s recommendations and recoveries (the good and bad!)

Photosymphysis · 30/08/2022 10:05

Just another contributor to the 'try the boob or bust method, it's miraculous!'

I spent my life thinking I was a completely flat 34AA. After breastfeeding my kids and finding MN, I found the boob or bust thing.

I measure at 28D (but they're insanely hard to get hold of so I wear a 30C. Although some lightly padded bralets since the lockdowns 😆)

The main thing is the complete difference in shape of a properly fitting bra.

IIRC, places like M&S and (god rest her soul) Debenhams only started their back sizes at 30, with hardly any actually stocked in 39 or 32, so they seem to push the 34s.

Like a PP, these little fried eggs grew my babies up big and strong. After feeling self conscious of them growing up, and feeling inadequate in my 20s, I'm very proud of them now.

Give them time and some proper measurement. Be proud of what they did. Boobs are amazing!

I thought I would update on this. I did the 'Boob or Bust' measurement recommendation, and although a bra in a different size helped, it was just very empty at the top and it wasn't a magic fix. However, I would definitely recommend it as a first action for anyone else in a similar position.

So, after a lot of consideration, I had surgery - and they look great! Definitely the right thing for me, but I know a lot of people have strong feelings around this.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions and comments.

Hi, I have quite recently had surgery due to how my breasts were left post BF. Really pleased I did it they were horrible before. Much more confident now. They are very realistic. I went for 1 size bigger. I'd probably go 2 sizes if I could re do it.

DrJump · 02/04/2023 21:35

Have you been to a proper bra shop?

Cups in bras are not all the same shape. For example I need quite a small u shaped cup which allows forward projection. Many bras in my size have a low wide u which means they are gappy at the top.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 02/04/2023 21:36

Good for you.

AbsolutePixels · 03/04/2023 01:38

I'm another one who feels much happier now I'm in a well-fitted bra. Used to wear 36A and there were always gaps, it looked terrible. Now I wear a 32C and I've got a nice little cleavage, my clothes fit beautifully and I feel so much more confident.

AbsolutePixels · 03/04/2023 01:40

Oh, OP just saw your last update. Congratulations, I so glad you're happy with the surgery.

an alternative to implants is fat transfer (if you have any spare) much less invasive. I've seen it done recently on a local practice page same results as implants.

Also incredibly expensive, often needs a second attempt as a lot of the fat doesn’t stay put, and relies on having adequate adipose tissue elsewhere on the body for the surgeon to lipo and liquify.

I’ve just had a breast lift, and asked my surgeon about fat transfer to add volume. I wear a 28 or 30” bra back size and a size 10/XS. My surgeon snorted when I asked and said “well, that plan rather relies on you having enough body fat for me to lipo”. It’s unlikely as a 28” back size in a bra that the OP has adequate body fat for the lipo needed for fat transfer.

WitheringTights000 · 03/04/2023 02:49

@YouWithoutEnd - I had a fat transfer in October to breast! I am a size 8 5ft 6 and about 8st 4lbs. You can have a fat transfer if slender.....

I think I might need a 2nd round though 😑

CamoFlamingo · 03/04/2023 06:54

OP did you haver under or over muscle implants and did the surgeons say they'll need to be replaced at some point? I've been thinking about breast implants but it wouldn't be for a few years anyway.

I had under the muscle - I didn't have enough tissue there to do over the muscle. They will need replacing at some point, that's one of the biggest disadvantages.

Did it cost loads because of needing to harvest fat /lipo from multiple different places?

WitheringTights000 · 03/04/2023 13:36

@YouWithoutEnd - it was 8k, so not exactly cheap! That included hospital overnight ( i sometimes have problems with G.A so bad to do overnight stay!)

At my 6 week review he said my boobs were more even now than most patients....but I am now due a 2nd Review ( over the phone as I don't live in London) and I do think it's gone down more 😑

I would love implants but my surgeon has had to take a number of them out due to breast implant illness which scares me 😱

Can't afford another 8k fat transfer

Are you happy with the results of just a lift?

Ahh, that’s not as bad as I thought, price wise. I heard that cost escalates the more areas of the body that they need to lipo to harvest enough fat!

Well yeah, I’m happy with my boobs after just a lift but they were super saggy before. I’ve lost just under 16st, and my boobs were a 38K bra size at my highest weight, but after the weight loss I was down to a 30H. There was very little actual breast tissue left, largely just skin. After my lift I’m at a 28/30FF - which obviously still sounds big but they feel tiny to me, and I can go braless now with absolutely no qualms at all. I think I’m going to wait at least a year and see how they settle as I only had them done on the 31st Jan this year and no idea about whether they’re still swollen, etc. My absolute preference is to preserve the new pertness and ability to support themselves, than it is to have them any bigger, so if fat transfer would compromise that then I’d rather leave it.

Post op results from just the lift. I’m reticent to mess with them, but there is some slight asymmetry that is more noticeable when topless, which is why I asked the surgeon about fat transfer in the first place.

Also, your costs of £8k put things hugely into perspective for me, as if I had £8k to spare I’d probably want to put it towards getting the loose skin on my thighs done or a tummy tuck, than spend any more on my boobs!

Useful conversation, thank you.

WitheringTights000 · 03/04/2023 19:32

@YouWithoutEnd - your boobs look fab 😍.......but yes I know what you mean.....my slight asymmetry is more noticeable when I'm topless and it's really bugging me!

As I said around 6 weeks after fat transfer the symmetry was almost perfect but it's defo deflated a bit 😢😢

I don't know what to do!

I had the fat taken from my flanks and some from my stomach! My stomach was fairly flat but there is a second layer of fat in everyone's stomach that can be taken during lipo, even if your tummy is flat!

I had been told previously by another surgeon that I went for a consultation with that the fat that survives the best is from the thighs....but I was too scared to take from there as my surgeon who did my operation said the thighs is the most common place for lipo to go wrong.... in terms of dimpling, dents etc.

So I guess if I have a second round it's going to have to be from the thighs!

My surgeon just scared me a bit with all his stories of breast implant illness....but i am so so tempted

WitheringTights000 · 03/04/2023 20:23

@YouWithoutEnd - also meant to add. I don't think a fat transfer would affect pertness, like it shouldn't drag them down, it wasn't something that was ever mentioned to me!

GaslighterDenier · 17/04/2023 07:56

@BimbleBrown only just seen your update re surgery, pleased you're happy with the choice you made! How are you finding the recovery? I found it was over 12 months before mine felt fully healed and softer but they've got more and more natural feeling/looking since then and 10 years on I'm still very happy.

GettingStuffed · 17/04/2023 14:50

If your cups are empty at the top shorten the straps and then rearrange your boobs.
