I am preparing for an important job interview, but I’m size 18/20 and can’t find anything high quality and smart.
something like bombshell hq but not occasion wear.

M&S do a brilliant navy trouser suit. Jacket is £99 snd trousers around £49. Can’t go wrong with it!! Or look for a fairly plain shirt dress. M&S has very well priced ones. If you want more unusual ones, Boden?

Depending on how much you want to spend…

I find Mango good for plus size tailoring in terms of the high street. Cut is decent tho quality is a bit variable - I tend to order lots and send back most. (M&S jackets never fit me well across the bust and shoulders - I’m not convinced they tailor well for plus sizes who are more apple shaped but equally I have one excellent coat from there so it may just depend on product).

If you are looking to invest in something more spenny, maybe Marina Rinaldi? I think I’m right to say it’s the plus size line from Max Mara. Anyway I have an excellent jacket that was £££ but looks it. You do need to be selective because not all of the styles are particularly modern, but the cutting is good. You might get something in the sale still? (Try Beige Plus as well as the main site as I’ve found MR gems there with good reductions.)

Hope your interview goes really well!

@Tangelo
Im not small and I own the trouser suit from M&S. it’s great quality and it does fit!

supercatlady · 29/08/2022 18:29

@tangelo I love the Marina Rinaldi stuff, thank you!. More than I would ever normally spend but very tempted on a fitted dress that’s half price. Would you say it’s true to size? That one is only available in a 20.

Hey @supercatlady - I find it fairly true to size tho I haven’t bought a frock. I’d say try it - and maybe a couple of other things that catch your eye? ;) Well, if you’re paying postage …
Hope it works brilliantly!

I find tailoring difficult. Plus size clothes seem to universally cut for tall people with long arms. The waists are always in the wrong place and there isn't enough room in the bust. I've always done better with a very smart shift dress. I don't know if these would be formal enough but I've bought about three or four dresses from this brand Ladress

I'm your size and have to wear suits everyday. I find next have suits that fit perfectly.

I'd suggest a nice dress - any brand you like- then a nice jacket over top maybe next or M&S ...
