Penhaligons recommendations

I was excited to come across perfumers that were vegan and cruelty free but I've had 3 samples from them now and none of them are nice.
Halfetti and Artemisia were foosty and powdery. Cousin Flora was a straight up aftershave.

Do they do any sweet or fresh perfumes?

I don't want to spend £30+ for the box of 10 samples if they're all going to be "older scents."

I love Castile - smells like aqua di Palma cologne. Really fresh and just lovely

Metabigot · 28/08/2022 20:08

Love penhaligons and don't find cousin F aftershavey at all but it's different on different people I guess.

I do like the portraits range especially duchess rose and the Clara one.

Firerybadger · 29/08/2022 08:18

Do their homepage tour/quiz to get 2 free samples?
the rose ones are VERY rosy
if you can get in they are very knowledgeable about bases etc to help you choose or maybe give them a call?

FairNotFair · 29/08/2022 08:25

Penhaligons Lily of the Valley is lovely - fresh and floral.
(Bluebell is an absolute classic and my all-time favourite, but might not be sweet enough)

bert3400 · 29/08/2022 08:28

My favorite Penalhaligon is Blasted Bloom, it's not cheap - about £60/70 I think, but it is really lovely

Bananabreakfast123 · 29/08/2022 08:42

I wear Empressa. It's light and fresh so really easy to wear. I got the five minis as a gift and it's by far my favourite then bought a big bottle. I also like Elizabethan Rose.

I bought my DH a bottle of aftershave and the staff in the shop were really helpful and knowledgeable about different scents. They pointed me in the right direction based on other aftershaves he liked, as well as letting me have samples. Might be worth a visit.

My favourites are Empressa and Luna… I’ve run out of both and can’t afford any more at the moment😢

soontobeamama · 29/08/2022 08:57

Empressa is a beautiful scent, not too heavy and has similar notes to Coco Mademoiselle, so if you like that, it might be a good one to try?

CorneliaStreet · 29/08/2022 09:22

Luna is a fresh scent and, as PP have said, Empressa is lovely. I also really like The Favourite.

I think Changing Constance is meant to be their sweetest scent. I haven’t tried it, but lots of good reviews of it on Fragrantica.

I adore Blasted Bloom but it's been discontinued. Where are you finding it please? More than happy to pay a premium!

Hi OP, I am glad to hear Penhaligon's are vegan and cruelty free. But for a budget option have you looked at Eden Perfumes in Brighton? I think they also have a shop in London. They are all vegan and do copies of many perfumes. Some are more successful than others. I have tried their versions Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir and Bergamot and Oud, also Penhaligon' Halfeti. The Pomegranate Noir smells very similar but not quite but still very pleasant. The others were good copies. They are very reasonably priced.

Ooh, I love Penhaligons! I got one of their scent libraries and narrowed down my favourites to Elizabethan Rose and Empressa.

ArielManto43 · 29/08/2022 12:00

I have a few different ones from Penhaligon's, and a ton of decants and samples, but the one I reach for most is Lothair. I find it to be the most versatile one I have - I can wear it day or night, and at any time of year. I'd definitely give that one a try.

I did the quiz and got recommended Artemisia and Cousin Flora.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I'll probably check out Elizabethan Rose first.

I did the quiz and got Helfeti (don't like and assumed I would as raved about on her), Artemsia (just sprayed to remind me and get the powdery thing you mean, OP) and Duchess Rose which is quite pleasant - pure rose.

Gingerwarthog · 29/08/2022 16:54

Their Lilly of the valley is lovely. Fresh.

Glitterandunicorns · 29/08/2022 16:56

I love Empressa and Luna. I'd definitely recommend getting their set of 5 minis (they're usually about £40 for the set but last absolutely ages).

AffIt · 29/08/2022 16:57

My favourite summer scent is Quercus, then either Savoy Steam or Blenheim Bouquet in autumn / winter.

WhereAreWeNow · 29/08/2022 17:17

I adore Halfeti. But only in the autumn and winter.
