Wfh -no heating what to wear

Professional - on video a lot.

I had the heating on a lot last winter and don't want to do that this winter.....

Looking for warm clothes ideas

So far I've looked at some thermal layers, slippers, a big knit cardigan - but lacking knowledge of truly warm clothing. Haven't been camping in years, for example!

I’m debating an Oodie…

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 27/08/2022 18:16

Thermal underlayer, oodie for between calls, fluffy (sherpa) socks and leggings. I go for warmth and comfort over style!

Suzi888 · 27/08/2022 18:20

Heated throw - 10p an hour.
There were loads of winter clothes in the shops today- like lounge wear.

Caspianberg · 27/08/2022 18:21

Decent slippers and socks make a huge difference

lugeforlife · 27/08/2022 18:22

In lockdown someone suggested a big throw or a poncho to me. I got a cheapo one from tk maxx and it was okish.

I also had a couple of warm cowl neck jumpers which I can put a long sleeved top under. They were dreadfully unflattering standing up but sat down and on Teams they were smart enough.

Thermal socks and leggings and a blanket below the waist.

Rina66 · 27/08/2022 18:25

Oodies are great but not sure you can wear it on vides calls.
Wrist warmers so you can still type
Thermals
Electric heated pad to sit on, put your back on, have your feet on, I love mine - it makes everywhere like having your car heated seats on. I never have my car heater on, just my heated seat.

DreamingofNuneaton · 27/08/2022 18:44

A thin knit wide wool scarf looks chic. You can then where what you want under it

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/08/2022 18:52

layers:

thermal or ski-ing type undies
vest
long joins

then
leggjngs
thermal or just long sleeved tee

then
Trousers
jumper

Then
big over jumper
throw on your knees.

double layer socks and then uggs

Fingerless gloves

No one’s moral can stand 4 months of a poncho over a onesie

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/08/2022 18:53

MORALE not moral

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 27/08/2022 18:57

Im due to start a WFH role in January. When I was working from home during lockdown it was cold feet and hands that bothered me most. I was bought Turtle Dove wrist warmers but someone put them in the wash and they shrunk to doll clothes size. Uniqlo heat tech range is really good either by itself or as a baselayer, if you need smart bottoms as well then their thermal trousers are good too.

CornedBeef451 · 27/08/2022 19:02

After seeing it on here last year I bought some second hand cashmere. It's really cosy and warmer than my normal cardigans.

I also sit with a fleecy blanket wrapped around me with my feet tucked in.

This year I think I'll buy some thermal leggings too as my legs get really cold.

Not sure whether to get fingerless gloves too as my mouse hand freezes up.

A580Hojas · 27/08/2022 19:08

Slippers that go up round your ankles with bedsocks.

Fleece blanket on your lap and down to the ground with your feet tucked in.

A wool shawl which covers your back - they can look perfectly smart if you get a plain one without fringes.

Change your workspace to the room which gets the most morning sun if you can.

cannaethink · 27/08/2022 19:08

Uniqlo thermal long sleeved tops with a wool jumper. Uniqlo are good for those too actually. The merino ones look quite smart and the lambswool ones are really warm.
Sheepskin boot slippers, wool socks, cashmere fingerless gloves, and a cosy blanket wrapped round but out of sight.
Last winter I’d go for a brisk walk at lunch which heated me up nicely!

hewouldwouldnthe · 27/08/2022 19:11

Oodie. So warm its ridiculous.

Magicmagician · 27/08/2022 19:16

Definitely the heated throw - you can wear them on calls just lower them down so they’re out of sight and then when off the calls back round your shoulders. You can then wear the clothes you’ve already got too (or maybe buy a few nice tops as this is style and beauty…), also good for on the sofa in the evening - I wouldn’t be without mine for wfh.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 27/08/2022 19:23

You can get heated jackets / gilets now too, my mums asked for one for work as she manages the night shift at a supermarket and they turn all the heating off as soon as the last customer has left the store.

youkiddingme · 27/08/2022 19:30

Love both my oodie and my electric throw. Not both at once - you'd cook!

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 27/08/2022 19:35

I was going to say focus on the appendages. So think from hands and feet inwards.
Fingerless clothes for typing, slipper socks and slippers, thermal/fleecy leggings/joggers. Then look at vests, long sleeve t-shirts, thick cardis or jumpers.
I also keep a hot water bottle on my legs and have a blanket or throw on the chair ready to wrap around my lower half.

GrouchyKiwi · 27/08/2022 19:38

Merino makes an excellent base layer.

I always make sure my feet are toasty - slipper socks are great for this.

If you're not doing video calls then wear your dressing gown over your clothes. Keeps you snug and warm without being too much fabric.

OddBoots · 27/08/2022 19:46

I plan layers on the top half including a thermal vest and wrist warmers and to be in a sleeping bag up to my waist.

RandomUsernameHere · 27/08/2022 19:52

Just wear loads of layers and throw a smart scarf or shawl over the top for calls, then it doesn't matter what's underneath

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/08/2022 19:53

I’m a lecturer so if I am teaching remotely I have my camera on. Last winter I was pretty much full time at home, this academic year will just be one day a week.

My top tips are:

uniqlo base layers
hot water bottle at your back
wool or cashmere jumpers - I second pp re buying second-hand and also buying now while people are in summer mode
wool socks, and Ugg boots
Cashmere wrist warmers
bottom-wise I tended to start in jeans, go for a walk at lunch, and then change into fleecy joggers

SpiderinaWingMirror · 27/08/2022 20:16

Leggings under jeans are good

Unforgettablefire · 27/08/2022 20:20

Don't forget tights. A lot of fisherman wear tights believe it or not as they find them warm when they're at sea. So don't forget tights under clothes.

MrsClatterbuck · 27/08/2022 20:25

I bought cashmere joggers in the M&S sale. Already had the hoodie. So warm and cosy also so comfortable. Wore them the whole time I had covid so good when I was feeling cold and shivering.
