Amber and floral perfumes

I've just got a sample of the new Prada Paradoxe perfume and I am in love. 💓 But it is out of budget.

I wore Valentina by Valentino on my wedding day and have just realised (by googling) that they have the same notes to them- amber, florals, neroli, jasmine

However, I usually buy dupes of perfumes to keep costs down and neither of these are available as a dupe.

Could anyone recommend a nice powdery, amber floral type perfume that doesn't break the bank please or one that I may be able to get a perfume parlour (or similar) dupe for?
Thank you

Check out fragrantica.com to check for smell-a-likes

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 26/08/2022 20:50

Thank you, I did. 🙂That was how I realised that they both had similar notes but then the list of perfumes boggled my mind.
I was hoping that someone might be able to suggest something from my really poor description.

I think you'd like black opium
I get a dupe from abbey perfumery called Joe smooth
Not sure if pp do a dupe of that one

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 26/08/2022 21:33

Oh thank you. I do like that one and had forgotten that it existed.

Went to boots for a sniff of Black opium this afternoon and it's not quite what I am looking for. It's a bit sweet I think.

Any other suggestions would be wonderful.

Have you tried Aromatics in White by Clinique? It's floral at first spray but then the amber does come through.

Try Jo Malone Fig & Lotus Flower
And they have a couple of Amber ones too

Check out Juliette has a Gun, Mmmm has a nice fruity floral amber twist, but they have a range of other ones that are really lovely.

Also Miller Harris, Pewdered Veil may be up your alley.

Yardley Gardenia might work?

I find it hard to go by the fragrantica descriptions as perfumes which smell “similar” can have a very different profile, and vice versa.

For budget-friendly options it’s worth going to M&S. Their fragrances are really well done but not marketed and therefore affordable. They have sample sets too. Some of their simpler scents can be layered, eg you could try a spritz of amber and a spritz of floral!

NB I’d rather buy an M&S original than a dupe of something else. Dupes are just yucky.

Thank you. There are a few to go and have a sniff of.
Pre children I wouldn't have thought twice about buying the expensive bottles but I just can't bring myself to do it now. There's always something else that the money could be spent on and it just feels wasteful.

I think you'd like YSL Cinema.

Absolutely - not everyone wants to spend their disposable income on perfumes! Check out Zara - they did a collaboration with Jo Malone (the person, not the brand) and those are highly rated. Also see M&S like I said above. Don’t buy dupes please, they’re cheap for a reason.

Oh yes I completely agree! This is gorgeous and ticks both the amber & floral boxes. It’s affordable because it’s older and not actively marketed.

Reviving an old thread to ask whether anyone has a dupe suggestion for prada paradoxe?

nancypowers1983 · 10/10/2023 23:55

I wore Valentina on my wedding day too and would love to find something as close to it as possible to evoke memories of the day. Thank you for starting this thread.
