Can I have balayage if I dye my hair brown and have greys?

I have been dying my hair brown with semi permanent dye for a number of years, and it’s become patchy. It’s always goes darker at the front for some reason no
matter how much I try to even it out. Hairdressers suggestion was just to not dye the front for a whole which is fine but it made me think that actually I’d love to do something new with my hair.

am I able to have balayage if I dye my hair dark? Would it be a case of just dying the roots? Would that work with semi permanent? I would just leave it natural but I have quite a few greys now.

I will go to the hairdressers about it but so far they’ve not been very helpful, so thinking of going somewhere new with a clearer idea of what I want.

thanks!

I just did exactly this on Tuesday!
Used to get an all over dark brown permanent to cover greys etc but it had started looking really flat and fading reddish. I had a half head balayage with a dark brown root melt, along with a toner, and it looks lovely! The highlights are caramel tones. The hairdresser said I will only need to get the root melt and possibly a toner depending on fading etc every 8 weeks and the balayage won't need to be done for 6 months. Love it!

hi @PickledWilly thank you this sounds perfect. How much did it cost if you don’t mind me asking, although I know it will vary!

thanks!
