Has anyone had a ring made? How much did it cost?

I recently lost the diamond from my engagement ring.
Rather than buy a like replacement ( it's not my original one , that was stolen in a burglary) I was thinking of using the gold from that ring, my eternity ring ( also missing 1 diamond) and some diamonds from a small pendant I don't wear, remade into one ring. Something similar to this photo. I have no idea how much it would cost though and don't want to look like an idiot if it's thousands!
Have any of you had something similar made to give me a rough idea? TIA

I had a ring where I had the gold and the stone and got it remodelled by a goldsmith - cost around £300 about 10 years ago...may or may not be helpful 😁

Thanks that's very helpful. I'm hoping it's in the hundreds rather than the thousands. I've got 2 rings and five/ six diamonds

I had a ring made 5 years ago, I traded in some yellow gold but bought a diamond, coat me £500. Would you be able to sell a diamond or two to offset the cost?

My mum had a quote for similar recently. It was over £2k. That was for a redesign of an eternity ring. No new gold or stones. She was Shock

That might be an idea @Fuuuuuckit

@hagelslaagfiend that's why I'm a asking, not sure I would pay that much, a new ring would cost the same

Having a ring made is way cheaper than buying it off the shelf. I designed my engagement ring and paid for the materials but no fee to the designer as she got paid commission from the people she bought the final stones from.

go to Hatton garden or Birmingham jewellery quarter and meet some designers, if you know what you want they’ll be able to adjust budget to suit

fwiw that ring won’t be very expensive as the diamonds are small and several small are cheaper than one big one

My friend had some diamonds remade into one ring. She went to the Manchester craft and design centre and got a lovely ring made for hundreds rather than thousands she was quoted elsewhere

Thanks I've got about 5 diamonds in various sizes all small!

My wedding ring was made for me, the diamonds we had weren't the right size so they provided the right ones. It was £750 and it was pretty much a direct copy of one I'd seen in goldsmiths for £1200

greenvelvetcouch · 22/08/2022 22:12

My engagement ring with gold and diamonds was 2.7k, but we didn’t have any gold or diamonds to begin with so I would say maybe less than that?

SoupDragon · 22/08/2022 22:21

I had one made just before Christmas. It was in platinum, I supplied the diamonds and it was something like £1400 I think.

Not similar to your photo though, it was chunkier and simpler.

I'm thinking of having another ring made with assorted diamonds from unworn items (this makes me sound like I have loads of diamond jewellery 😂😂). It's very satisfying to get something that has been made to your own specification.

Thanks all , very helpful indeed. I will take the plunge and make an appointment.

Maybe I'll encourage my mum to get another quote!

pensionconfusion · 23/08/2022 07:05

Great idea. Then you will have something very unique.

I like jewellery by instagram.com/danielmusselwhitejewellery?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= he was on the last series of 'All that glitters' that starts back this Thursday.

I would suggest looking for independent jewellers on Instagram and find one that you like.

I had a quote from Harriet Kelshall and it as going to be over £2K to have my small, 3 stone diamond ring made into a pendant (long story!) I went in person to their workshop to enquire.
