Does anybody ever feel too ugly for the world? I have been feeling so ugly that I don't even want to go outside . . . Does this sound like body dysmorphia ???

How can I feel more confident and not bothered what people think of me ???

I usually think to myself yes you would love to have a body/face like so and so etc etc but there are also millions of people who would also love to have your face and body.

I don't mean that I think I am gorgeous or anything. I am deffo not.

I just mean, I'm healthy, a bit fat but there are other people who are struggling with different things who would swap bodies with me for one reason or another.

I understand you! That's a nice way to look at it. I just think there is a certain beauty standard these days with social media and if you don't fit into that box people look at me as if in ugly because I am just me and not big lips and botox. I am 23 year old girl so just feel like people look at me in disgust

You are most deffo wrong. For a start, I look back at pics where I was 23 and I think "you stupid bitch, you looked fab" you will too.

The way people look on social media is not real life. It's all filters and angles. I guarantee you.

I can make myself look amazing with the right filter and the right angle but no one in real life sees that angle or that filter. There is no one I can think of that ever posts a rough picture to say look at the state of me. It's only ever flattering pics on Instagram etc.

I never see anyone in real who looks like their Instagram etc. never. I admit I only go to work, shopping and the school run but no one looks like this even on rare nights out.

It's not doable. Unless you are a kardashian etc and they have never been on a school run or an Aldi shop in their lives.

My mum found a pic of me last week and I am about 20 -22. I look amazing. Well I think I do anyway.

There was fuck all wrong with me. I remember the day it was took. I felt horrible and bloated etc I felt awful.

I'd kill to look like I did then

Other than not having botox and filled lips, what exactly do you think is ugly about your features?

90redbaloons · 22/08/2022 21:45

@bluepinkyellowgreen so sorry you feel like this. I dealt with this a lot over the years aswell, I got to the point where I didn't want to leave the house either and had body dysmorphia. I think it also didn't help that I hung around people who were just superficial and totally focused on looks and nothing else. Like @limitededitionbarbie said, social media does not portray real life. So many people are editing their photos, I know plenty of people who do this and they look nothing like this in reality. Is there any way you could take a break from social media just for a little while ? For me I find it helps a lot

Sorry that you experienced this too! How did you manage to just accept yourself? It's easier said than done! I think for me social media does play a part but it's mainly when I go outside and I see people give me funny looks and I assume they are thinking "ew look at her" I feel like I am looked down upon because I don't fit the typical "influencer" look

I just think I have a horrible face. I have a big nose and small lips. My face is very unsymmetrical and very plain.

I am really not here to drone on and get sympathy, I would love to know if other people have experienced this and how they over come it?

@bluepinkyellowgreen I think for me I learned to accept myself when I just realised how badly I had been treating myself. My self esteem was on the ground and as a result i let other people treat me badly. I too have small lips and at one point I got hooked on fillers. Having bigger lips did not make me any happier or like myself more. I now really like and value having small lips and I think in time to come small lips will come to be popular like other trends.

As for the people who give you funny looks, well those people are just showing their own bad manners. Perhaps there are some people who think you are pretty and admire your sense of style. I know when I thought badly of how I looked that I always thought everyone was looking at me because they thought I looked ugly, but that wasn't always true
