Rome wedding! What do wear!

My cousin is getting married in Rome, his girlfriend is Italian. They work in the entertainment industry as producers. It literally couldn’t get any worse for upping the bloody stakes on being surrounded by gorgeous lovelies.
The dress code is summer chic. It starts at 5pm so obviously what I wear to the reception will carry on into the night. It’s also a 15 min or so walk from our air bnb, uphill!
Haven’t been to a wedding for ages and am having confidence crisis as put on but of weight round my tummy and really don’t know what to wear! Guests will probably be all super smart and chic Romans and arty types. I don’t want to look like a sac of potatoes nor some middle aged country bumpkin. What the hell do I wear! Any suggestions on where to even start looking! I don’t fit into any of my previous “party dresses” and they look dated now. Please stylish MN crew help point me in the right direction. I know it’s not about me but still be nice to feel good and look nice.

I like that Diane von Furstenberg. It sounds as if it would work with your colouring.

In my experience people do dress up at Italian weddings but not in the formal/conservative way that is common (though not as much as it used to be) at British weddings, they look like they’re dressed up to go out but it doesn’t feel wedding specific. So men often wear jeans with a shirt and blazer rather than a suit, women don’t wear hats, fascinators or those matching dress/jacket type outfits. Exactly how dressed up obviously depends on the venue, time of day and so on - I’d expect a shift dress at a daytime event rather than an evening one.

I’d go for a silk midi or maxi dress, or a silk top and wide-leg trousers. Something that’s elegant but floaty and comfy to eat in as Italian weddings often involve a never-ending meal. Heels or flat sandals (delicate not chunky), maybe in gold leather. I like the Rixo and self portrait dresses linked above.

Oh and the Outnet is always worth a look for this kind of thing.

I have this from Oasis, it doesn't crease, you can wear on or off the shoulder with a bra, would work with flats or heels, it's very flattering and comes in beautiful colours....

Romans have a variety of styles. Some are very full on big hair, gold, deep tan etc. Some are very understated. Some are surprisingly conservative.

if they are producers in film /tv you will likely get a lot of understated cool rock chic.

what part of town are you staying in - we could suggest a few shops?
