Hair colour help

So I'm 44 with a few greys. Naturally mousey. I've been highlighting my hair for probably 2 years and it's gotten blonder and blonder. Thinking of going back to brunette as upkeep is murder. What do you think?

I'd probably go all over block colour for a few months before working a few highlights back through just to get the colour intensity back

Go for it, you’d get less problems with regrowth. You could always go for balayage coverage too

I went colour block when my greys came but it actually looked worse so yes I did put high lights back in.

Got bored of that because it's so continuous so let everything grow out and I absolutely love my grey/brown hair. Very striped and cool.

What do you think it will be like if you grew it out?

cannypants · 20/08/2022 13:11

@jeaux90 I think grown out it would be ok but I'm not sure I could bear it for the growing out process. It looks bad enough at 6 weeks!

I do get it, I had to grin and bear it but it was really worth it. It's in fantastic condition now too, and the ball ache/costs of getting it coloured has gone.

Another friend of mine did a pixie cut then let it grow out for this reason.

What about a root stretch using a similar colour to your natural, to give you a ombré sort of effect? You could see how it goes with the roots, if you’ve not got many greys it might not be too bad.

Jollyhungry · 21/08/2022 12:46

I'm really similar to you and gave gone cold turkey with dying. The greys don't show too much as they blend in with the ash blonde.

I get toning treatments to tone down the blonde bits and make it less obvious. Almost there now and it's starting to look great.

It was actually a hairdresser who persuaded me to do it as she said ash blonde/grey is really trendy! 😆

Going against the grain here, I think your hair really suits you blonde. As others have suggested you could always have more of an ombré? That's what I have and I'm also naturally mousy and now I literally have my hair coloured twice a year it's so low maintenance x

Your hair really suits you. If I were you I’d just put in a few lowlights in dark blonde.
