Orange hair

Pob13 · 17/08/2022 07:33

I use semi permanant hair dye and always choose something like "light ash brown". But my hair always ends up orange/yellow. I thought using an ash colour rather than warm would stop this but it really hasnt.
Any advice would be appreciated.

What's the actual number of the hair dye?

MistyRock · 17/08/2022 07:49

So you want ones that are 1, 2, 7 or 8. For example 5.1 which will be light ash brown. I use l'oreal casting cream gloss in number 5 (light brown, but I'd say its dark) and sometimes 5.13 nude ashy brown (depending what country you buy it in as its also called Iced Truffle). I find the lighter you go the more chance of an orange tinge. 5.13 may turn orangey depending on your natural colour, whereas 5 will definitely not go orange.

Use a purple shampoo www.pureology.com/blog/haircare-tips-tricks/why-you-need-a-purple-shampoo.html

Actually 5.13 never goes orange because its purple based.

@MistyRock thank you so much for your replies. I completely forgot I started this thread this morning.
I use clairol light ash brown 75 and I tried dark ash blonde 90.

If I'm correct then the 7.5 is mahogany (red) toned. As 5 as the secondary colour is mahogany according to l'oreal.

Thank you. I have ordered some loreal in iced truffle 5.13. (Who comes up with these names).

Maybe 5102 cool mocha would be better.

Sorry I'm getting confused. 1 is Ash toned. And 3 is golden. But nevertheless is doesn't turn orange on me or friends that use it. Also you can tell by the colour it goes when developing. I used l'oreal no5 yesterday and when developing it look green. Which is a good sign as it definitely won't turn orange. It obviously doesn't look green when washed out. My favourite hair dyes are ones which look purple when developing as they really look like a rich brown after. I used Revlon dyes in South East Asia and they were lovely. I haven't been able to buy them since. 😭

No problem, I'm no expert but I've had many years experience in trying to dodge the orange tones.
