Hi, I'm going to Bucharest mid-September for a week and I'm looking for a stylish jacket that will go with everything can't be not too warm as it's about 23-26° I tend to wear dresses more than anything and very rarely wear jeans although I'll probably take one pair and shorts. I'd be very grateful for any suggestions. At the moment all have come up with is a denim jacket!

How about an unlined cotton chore jacket or blazer?

badgerstink · 16/08/2022 18:14

I love a little knitted/boucle style blazer. I've a couple of zara ones which work well day/evening

KirstenBlest · 16/08/2022 18:16

A denim jacket is good as you could choose one with internal pockets, and they generally don't fall out of use. You could pick one in a twill.

Shops like M&S, Fat Face, Boden, Joules and Seasalt might be worth a look if you want to get one that will be your holiday jacket for years to come.

Khaki cargo jacket and a navy blazer. Smart and casual bases covered and the colours go with everything :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/08/2022 08:46

This sort of thing - goes with lots of stuff and lighter to wear than a denim jacket.

Nice and a bit of a bargain.

KirstenBlest · 17/08/2022 09:25

There's a reason why the All Saints one is reduced.
The JL one is ok

Dogscanteatonions · 17/08/2022 09:26

Thanks everyone, some perfect suggestions. Liking the cotton chore and cargo jackets idea - one of those would be great
I've got a pink and black blazer - think I'll take the black one - I hadn't thought of it but it does pack small.

Good choice. I think the denim jacket/maxi dress combo now looks really dated (sadly, as it’s an easy and comfortable look).

KirstenBlest · 17/08/2022 11:39

I dont think the denim and midi looks dated as it's quite a classic, but it has been done a lot, especially with white daps

midsomermurderess · 17/08/2022 12:09

Toast has some good casual jackets, it's just they're so bloody expensive. White trainers and long dresses is a lot of things, one thing it's not is classic.

KirstenBlest · 17/08/2022 12:13

Maybe you're right. I meant 'classic' as in 'boden catalogue look'.

Seasalt and M&S have decent chore jackets. The shop names might scream frumpy, but they're not if you try them on, and the quality is great. Mint Velvet and Arket etc might be places to try.

KirstenBlest · 17/08/2022 12:15

Was suggesting SS and M&S as alternatives to Toast for casual jackets. I used to love Toast but haven't really liked anything much for quite some time.

Well, that's got that sorted then.

We all bow to your superior suggestions.

KirstenBlest · 17/08/2022 13:32

Ugh! What an unpleasant post.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/08/2022 13:41

And there was me thinking that your post was unpleasant.

OP - hope you find something you like.

Excuse me?

JeanGabin · 17/08/2022 14:17

I have this Whistles jacket which is smart (if that's what you're after) and goes well with jeans as well as skirts / smarter trousers. Loads of colours, easy to wear

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/08/2022 14:29

@JeanGabin That's nice. Keep mean ing to try one one but am yet to track one down in my size.

KirstenBlest · 17/08/2022 15:31

That Whistles one looks like one that you could wear with lots of things and some of the colours are terrific. It's one of that jackets that fit the 'pull an outfit together' description.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/08/2022 15:45

I almost bought this yesterday, but wasn't sure about the neckline. It was really comfortable and light though.

I really like that.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/08/2022 16:00

@MissLucyEyelesbarrow I particularly liked that the sleeves had a sort of stretchy jersey panel, so pushed up really nicely! I am indeed a child of the 80s.

StarlightLady · 17/08/2022 16:42

II have a denim jacket in a pale pink which works well for me when travelling. I tend to live in dresses.
