Has anyone just disposed of all their skinny jeans?

I must have 20+ pairs hogging wardrobe space. I haven’t worn a pair since the start of the pandemic but I don’t know how much is dated style versus how much is they are not the obvious choice to sit at home in! The topshop ones have earned their keep but I’m falling into the trap of handwringing over more premium pairs that I’ve only worn a handful of times. I do have other denim but no shape I love as much as the skinny Jean and struggle with styling especially in winter when I’m not a fan of a chilly gap.

am I mad and deluded to hang on to them…help me take the plunge if so!

Give them to a charity shop and keep, some for at home etc

I'm still going to wear mine, they are practical and comfortable

kimchifox · 14/08/2022 13:56

Wear what suits you. Nothing will age you faster than wearing "young fashion" if it looks awful on you. Assuming you look good in anything wear what you like & if you no longer like skinnies give them to the charity shop. Or at work just transition out of them rather than completely overhauling your whole wardrobe.

TroysMammy · 14/08/2022 13:58

I've only got one pair which I hope to get back into one day. Fat chance. 😂

TheFairyCaravan · 14/08/2022 14:00

I did. I wear girlfriend jeans now. Joules ones fit me best.

TinaYouFatLard · 14/08/2022 14:03

I‘m only keeping a pair for the wet and cold hours standing next to the football/rugby pitch that will soon be here. Skinnies are the only style that tucks properly into wellies.

I work in an industry where jeans are acceptable in the office but I can’t imagine wearing skinny jeans in the office now…it would age me which I can’t really afford to have happen if I want to stay employed. I also can’t see going on a night out in nice top and skinnies any more but haven’t been on many night outs either since covid, maybe people do still do that? Not sure putting aside for 2 more months will prove much as they are unworn for 2.5 years (with possible exception of tucked into wellies for a muddy walk one or twice!).

Op what job do you do where ageing will lose you your job??!

This has got to be one of the most depressing things I've read on here in ages 😔

schmalex · 14/08/2022 14:16

I've kept a couple of pairs but have mostly rotated them out of my wardrobe and sold on Vinted. They do come in handy for country walks with walking boots / wellies!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 14/08/2022 14:17

I'm thrilled that a loose fit is back in fashion, but skinnies are more practical for wet weather - no draping hems, can tuck into boots. So I'm keeping some for winter, and will frump my way through wet days.

PersonaNonGarter · 14/08/2022 14:20

Skinny jeans will age you and you are dead right not to wear them to the office.

MN Style and Beauty keeps having these threads of the ‘Wear them if you love them!’ Type answers.

Thats obviously true. It’s also bad fashion advice.

whalleyt · 14/08/2022 14:20

they will be back in soon enough as 00s fashion will be upon us.

Panickingnow · 14/08/2022 14:24

They fell out of fashion?

LadyVictoriaSponge · 14/08/2022 14:48

TeapotTitties · 14/08/2022 13:37

I don't get the Mumsnet obsession with skinny jeans being 'out of fashion'.

They're just a staple part of the wardrobe now, just like leggings are.

They're neither in or out of 'fashion'.

Exactly this! Honestly these ‘dated skinny jeans’ threads have been going on since 2012!! Yes for exactly 10 years people have been trying to bury skinnies on here, but seeing as River Island, New Look, Primark etc are full of them and you see them on people absolutely everywhere, take the hint, no one is listening and no one cares whether they are dated in fashionistas eyes or not, and as for losing your job if you wear skinny jeans, I suggest you find a new job as you are going to age visibly no matter what garment you put on your legs, mom jeans won’t save your face.

MrsFerguson · 14/08/2022 14:50

OP your job sounds really sad. What happens when you start ageing physically (face and hands?)

gogohmm · 14/08/2022 14:51

I never have more than 3 pairs - good ones, every day ones and scruffy ones for doing painting etc. the oldest ones are skinny, the others are not quite skinny but still shaped

Insomniac2507 · 14/08/2022 14:52

I've just bought some new skinny jeans - looking forward to wearing them with boots in autumn! Other types of jeans just don't go well with boots. In summer I wear mum jeans.

MrsFerguson · 14/08/2022 14:53

I've just checked Next and New Look, sorted their jeans page by "bestselling" and both retailers had skinnies in the top few. So I guess they're still popular

:)

Gufo · 14/08/2022 14:54

I only have 3 or 4 pairs of jeans at a time, but am keeping one pair of skinnies for wearing with wellies in winter.

cheekychatta · 14/08/2022 14:54

Wear them with long boots and a long top in winter . Rebrand them as leggings

userxx · 14/08/2022 14:55

MrsFerguson · 14/08/2022 14:50

Exactly! It sounds brutal.

Judelawswife68 · 14/08/2022 15:01

Can you legally be sacked for getting older?? What job do you do? Are you a model?

How old are you? I work in an office which is awash with people aged 20 upwards wearing skinny jeans.

All jeans look the same to me and I've only noticed this because I started to pay attention to all the threads about the death of skinny jeans. Aren't they just a staple the way a jumper, t-shirt or shirt is?

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 14/08/2022 15:06

bcc89 · 14/08/2022 12:28

Worrying that you're worried that skinny jeans "aging you" will make you lose your job? 🤨

That's far more worrying than worrying whether skinny jeans are in or out.

Pieceofpurplesky · 14/08/2022 15:08

Now curious to know what you do and why you would lose a job because you don't wear what everyone else does?

SheWoreYellow · 14/08/2022 15:09

I’ve got out some bootcut/straight that I put away 10-15 years ago and will put away the skinny ones.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 14/08/2022 15:13

No I still wear my skinny jeans all the time (except in the middle of a heatwave!)
