Contouring help please

Am late to the party.

Probably a bit of a dumb question but how many brushes do you use when contouring your face? I have seen various Instagram hacks which show putting different coloureds dots on your face and then blending it but do you use the same brush?

I know that if I tried this I would house one brush, blend the whole lot together and end up with one sludgey colour all over my face.

What is the secret?

Photo attached.

I use blush, contour and highlight and a different brush for each
A big duo fibre one for blush
An angled one for contour
A small fluffy one for highlighter or a fan brush for more impact

I think if you're using all cream, no shimmer products then yes you could just use the same brush and go from lightest to dark. But I use powder and shimmers so different brushes

Thanks @PeloAddict Here is another photo which shows where the different colours are placed. I know this sounds stupid but how do you blend it while keeping the colours separate? I know it’s all practice but I think I will blend everything into one beige colour.

Yeah if they cross over that's when it starts blending into a muddy mess
They should touch but not overlap, highlight isn't too bad on top of blush or overlapping as it's different textures but contour and blush = mud!

I do the different colour dot hack. I just start with the lightest colour and blend that first then move on to the next etc. I sometimes use a brush and sometimes a beauty blender. You can be quite rough with it I find and also add move of each colour if needed. Also lots of setting spray to help blend.

These might help

Thanks! I’ll give it a go.
