Help finding a new work wardrobe

Starting a new job in a few weeks after many years out of the workplace so need a new work wardrobe. I’ll be working in a school that like people to be quite smart and doing a job on my feet, bending over etc. so definitely needs to be comfortable and flat shoes. I’m just struggling to know where to start… I’m quite an arty, bookish, creative type so would like to reflect that rather than “businessey”, but will still need to be smart. Size 14 (bit of a mum tum) and 5”7ish. Any ideas? Added points for not being fast fashion. I feel clueless!

What about a couple of jumpsuits. They go well with flats, can be smart or casual and it doesn't matter if you have to climb around on the floor.

Are there any other constraints? I can only speak from my pov which is don't look old and be comfortable.

I'd build it from the shoes up. Luckily non-sporty trainers and similar are in, so I'd splash out on some non frumpies from Jigsaw or whatever the latest thing is and see what they style them with just to get an idea. I wear DM type boots and other suede ankle boots in Winter, also I have quite a nifty white pair.

Ethical clothes websites I've used are Thought amd 98%. Midi dresses are your friend, also I cop out frequently and wear black trousers and a newish top when I cba.

Oh and details, earrings, nice belt, other jewelry nice bag etc

@Coffeesnob11 That’s a good suggestion, I’ll take a look. They’re so comfortable too.

@NotMyDust No other constraints. Don’t look old and be comfortable sounds like a good starting point! Good thinking re starting with the footwear. Will take a look at thought and 98%. Also a big fan of ankle boots so I like that idea. I wonder if I can find a smartish pinafore to go with boots over the winter. I think you’re so right about the details, quite an easy way to add a bit of personality to an outfit and look a bit more “finished”. Thank you!

I wear smart knee length shorts to work. Currently with Birkenstocks. Sleeveless top. (Not a school.)

Toast is expensive but it might be the look you are after. I’ve had a couple of really great pieces from them that last and last. Always get compliments when I wear them as well though it’s not my usual style.

@LadyWithLapdog that sounds like a nice outfit!

@viewsoftheshard good thinking, I’ll take a look. Dresses can be a good option because there’s not too much thinking involved with getting things to go together. Good to know they last well too.
