Does my hair look terrible?

Sparkles8912 · 11/08/2022 12:05

A random post but I’m thinking of getting my hair done darker.

I use a box dye normally and recently I’ve become paranoid that it’s too yellow so thinking of trying to go back to a dark blonde with the help of my hairdresser.

I just can’t decide whether to take the plunge though. Sometimes I like being a light blonde and other times I think my hair must look terrible and people are too polite to say.

So looking for some honest feedback on whether my current hair colour looks awful / too yellow.

And any toning tips as a make do before I decide on whether or not to go darker.

Not sure how these images will display but kept it cropped as paranoid of people who know me seeing!

Try some Fanola purple shampoo before you do anything more permanent

Takemebacktothenorth · 11/08/2022 12:11

It looks a little yellow, but nothing that a purple shampoo couldn't fix. I wouldn't recommend you went darker without actually seeing you, because it depends on your skin tone, age etc.

Bellyups · 11/08/2022 12:14

It is yellow.
I 100% recommend having a hairdresser tone it. They can do so many different tones you wouldn’t believe it.
failing that, Fanola is good but make sure you use a deep conditioning mask afterwards

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 11/08/2022 12:19

Wet it and sit in the sun until it dries a few times.

Thank you - I might try the Fanola and then go darker in September once my holiday is over and done with.

I’m torn between having yellow hair on holiday but the colour I’m used to, and new hair which my hairdresser has warned me I might not like straight away 🙈

It’s a bit yellow but also very one dimensional. You’d benefit from having some toner put in and some high or low lights to break it up a bit

i think this happens when people use box dye repeatedly tbh

Sparkles8912 · 11/08/2022 12:25

@ShirleyPhallus my hairdresser has said they would have to just done one full colour before they can put any highlights or low lights in it. Kind of keen to just go back to my natural colour as I can see this costing me a regular fortune

As others have said, try a good purple shampoo. Fanola is very good and I use it about once a week.

I’ve also used Fudge Clean Blonde range in the past which also effectively does the job.

I’m thinking of leaning towards biting the bullet and going for the hairdresser option…

Hair dresser is the best option, you’ll be amazed by what they can do.

I agree with this

Hard to say without seeing your face really!! Some people really suit a yellowy blonde - others look washed out.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 11/08/2022 15:35

I think it’s the one dimensional colour - it has none of the variations which make coloured hair look more natural. Definitely try some purple shampoo as it’s a cheap fix.

I think some low lights would help bring it to life.

Sparkles8912 · 11/08/2022 16:26

This is probably a stupid question because I’m hopeless with stuff like this but will it also not look a bit one dimensional if the hairdresser gives it a full colour? They’ve said no highlights to start with as needs a full colour to cover the box dye.

All of this just blows my mind, I so wish I’d never dyed it in the first place!!

Thanks to everyone’s advice I visited the hairdresser today and had my hair toned, just by half a shade this time but going to keep doing this gradually until I have a more natural colour. Happier with it already!
